Not to start the debate again, but what value? Terrible programming?

I'm not sure if the funding model is right... shows like Trailer Park Boys have been much more successful via different government assistance schemes instead of a large organization. Just sayin.

CBC does some things very well. CBC Radio is an absolute gem that fills a void that the private sector wouldn't touch. That's where CBC shines. On the TV front, results are much more mixed. The National is the best national news broadcast going, but the local news hasn't been worth watching since First Edition died and importing British and American reality shows to make a "Canadian" version doesn't add anything (CTV and Global have the market on that). CBC has made some great shows in the past, but these days they seem to be fewer in number. Maybe it's a lack of funds or maybe it's a lack of focus, but the TV side needs work. Sadly, hacking more out of their budget probably isn't going to make things better.

This thread's not really the place for debating the merits of the CBC. If there's no CBC thread in "Culture, Transportation & the Economy" then you could create one there.

According to the ANS rumour mill it sounds like BMO might be the primary Nova Centre tenant.

I would find that a little surprising, but at least the Nova Centre would be committing to the construction of commercial office space, which should mean they are likely to stick with their building plans seen in their second set of renderings.

I would have been happy with residential as well, but I always feel better when the construction of downtown is more variable.

Here's a nice photo that includes the Nova Centre site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/15367737@N00/7181644343/sizes/l/in/photostream/

That site is like a big open wound but it is mostly surrounded by pretty decent buildings. If the Nova Centre is built then it might really bring together the streets closer to the Citadel. I wonder how long it will be before we hear news and before they begin excavation?

Oh god yes, this wonderful piece of trash. What I find most enjoyable is when Alan Ruffman gets up talking about how the convention market is crashing - which in the US it was. But then if you looked at the Canadian numbers, he's emphatic they are crashing too - yet his own graph shows a stable to increasing trend.

Makes you wonder if they ever proof read those things and shows why people don't take them seriously.

I couldn't spend more than 10 seconds once it switch to Phil Pacey, before I turned it off.

Yeah, and just because a market "crashes" (although that would not describe what happened in Canada or globally) doesn't mean it doesn't recover. Now is the best time to build for Halifax... its called the business cycle.

The arguments about people won't be travelling as much are completely unsubstantiated. Additionally, this project is "sustainable".

There was another article about the Nova Centre in Allnovascotia tonight. Apparently tenants have been signed on. It's expected that Joe Ramia will make an announcement in the coming weeks and that construction will begin this summer.

This should be a huge year for construction in downtown Halifax.

Excellent!

Can someone go take a baseball bat to those mannequins now?

Yeah, they're going to paint them red and white, then entwine all of the limbs together, forming a giant, grotesque lighthouse to place outside of the main entrance.

Trillium syndrome had better not infect the Nova Centre.

I just teared up for Halifax. This is the most epic news of all so far.

When I see the first pictures of construction posted I'm sure it will sink in.

I think the opponents are all wrong about Nova Centre and that area will be more vibrant than it is currently.

Seriously. I hope they don't screw up the colour of the glass like that one issue with the spandrels or whatever they are called on the lower half of the Trillium above the entrance.
