Looking at this, which is relatively simple and clean, makes me even more angry about what we're going to get as rental stock on that corner.

Migration stats would color your wrong on that one. I think you misread the story.

As for not wanting to live someplace because the architecutral style is not the soup-du-jour, I think that's a bit sad, becuase it means there are so many wonderful places that you'll never appreciate.

Consequently, they can throw up the most aesthetically modern and glamourous buildings in Toronto or Vancouver , and you still couldn't pay me enough to live there.

I could really care less about this whole debacle, except that it smacks of a bait & switch, and Procura going down the toilet. As for that signature corner, I'll still take this over the run down hostel, empty parking lot and bastardized funeral home/ bar.. even if it doesn't appeal to my own particular style.

This looks like a screw up.

This poor design isn't enough to ruin downtown or anything, but I sure hope some nicer buildings go up soon. We should be able to look forward to things much nicer than this.

I'm not an architecture snob. And when I buy a new property I'll vote with my wallet, just like I do with everything else. ... but since I am not going to buy a condo downtown (actually trying to offload one at the moment) it's of no consequence to me, and It's not my job to tell other people what they should do or like.

Pig, meet lipstick. I would rather they cut that parkade entrance down to size. It's a major visual barrier to the plaza behind the library.

What makes it feel friendly and vibrant?

What gives it a true sense of community?

For every person, the answer will be slightly different.

I love my neighbourhood because of its architectural and human diversity — because we have a mix of heritage homes and new infill, a mix of families, seniors, and singletons, a mix of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

Others might prefer a more homogeneous streetscape, where the houses all match and the people who live in them share a similar lifestyle.

I love my neighbourhood because it’s close to all kinds of shops and restaurants, because I can walk or bike to a great bakery, a great deli, a great gelato bar.
