I thought this silly naming thing was discussed to death already.

Expo Line - Waterfront to King George
Millenium Line - Waterfront to VCC/Clark

Note the overlap of Millenium Line to Expo Line. But there was no renaming. So logically...

Evergreen Line - Douglas to VCC/Clark

There is an overlap on the existing Millenium Line but at the end of the day, Millenium Line retains the route from Waterfront to VCC/Clark.

Its really that simple....

maybe i am wrong and not paying attention - but do I am under the assumption that one travelling from coq centre to VCC clark will need to get off the train and transfer to the m-line at lougheed

or is that old dated news?

It's never been like that, except when the plan was for LRT. As long as it's a skytrain extension, the plans are from trains running from Douglas College to VCC-Clark.

I assume the capacity of the VCC/Loug line will double as trains coming from the evergreen line will run alongside trains coming from New west.

No. The plan seen so far has the trains from New West end at Lougheed.

The rider ship on that route is some of the lowest in the whole rail network, so adding a transfer at Lougheed will impact the least people compared to any other option.

While it is an option, there is no service planned to run between Waterfront and VCC via Columbia. It will terminate at Lougheed.

Otherwise yes, it is discussed to death. Apparently, some members have word that the entire Douglas College to VCC-Clark service will be renamed to something else.

Silly as this may sound, I still wish they'd NUMBER or LETTER the lines. It feels so much less "provincial," so much more "metropolitan..."

((Hey, we could always use "The Ookpik Line," "The Skookumchuck Line," "The Campbell Memorial Line," and "the Totem Line," if we REALLY want to be politically correct
and if we really want to be mindful of our heritage.))

Just because they do something in Paris does not mean it is provincial to do something different elsewhere. I think too much time in France has turned your brain.

Plenty of major cities name their lines (London, Tokyo, Berlin, Singapore, Moscow etc...) and I'd hardly call those small backwater towns.

I personally find not naming your lines to be incredibly boring and a lost opportunity to add a unique component to your city.

Well, the Expo Line is officially line 999. Millennium is 996, and Canada is 980

cela pourrait être vrai, monsieur !!

also true!!

Agreed again, but I wouldn't want the names to sound corny. Subjective, of course

a) board train in Surrey to Vancouver
b) exit at Columbia
c) walk down & up to other platform
d) board train to Lougheed
* may have to let a Surrey-bound train pass
e) exit at Lougheed
f) stay at same platform for train to SFU (and VCC)
* most likely will be the next train.

life *just*sucks* when you're using transit on a really cheap UPass.

BTW: it doesn't get much better when you graduate - now you pay the full cost every month for a three-zone pass.

Haha, yeah, #firstworldproblems: I have to make an extra transfer on the multibillion-dollar computer-driven train system that I get access to with my tuition payments to my top-ranked university on top of a mountain.

At Columbia they might have to wait several trains. One of the benefits of having separate service on the Expo and Millennium lines is that they can have more trains head into Surrey where they are depserately needed. So at peak, I can see something like 3 out of 4 trains heading into Surrey.

At Lougheed, when coming from New Westminster, they will have to cross platform transfer. So it will be the next train, at the "to Vancouver" platform. No stairs involved, but you will have to walk 20 feet or so.

On the way back from school, they will have to do a down-up transfer to get to New West/Surrey.

The benefit of splitting at Lougheed is that they can run the Millennium Line with shorter trains at higher frequency without putting too much capacity. If you ask people taking the millennium line, many would complain how "infrequent" the trains are. By splitting the line, then can now run 2-cars train every 3 min or less during peak time instead of 4-car trains every 6 min. Off peak can have 2-cars train every 5 min instead of 4-cars every 6 min, saving operating cost.

Question TRAIN to SFU ? ? What'th' ? !??

Sorry if I'm a half-wit at this, but I don't understand "trains to SFU" mentioned in the main post, and several re-quotes of it.

If you're talking about SFU in Burnaby, only busses go up there, of course. So are you talking about a VCC-SFU combined institution. Or what? "Train to SFU (and VCC)" just baffles me. Sorry

Many students go to SFU on Burnaby Mountain by taking the Skytrain to Production Way station and then shuttling up on the #145 bus. No, Skytrain doesn't go right to SFU, but it comprises the longest part of the ride (measured by distance, not time) for most SFU-bound Translink passengers.

"Train to SFU (and VCC)"

The Millennium Skytrain that goes from Lougheed Stn to VCC Terminal passes through the Production Way Stn.
Buses connect Production Way to SFU.
Quite the shlep if you're commuting from Surrey.
