okay, edited for overreaction (after i was finally able to view the document).

i still don't care for the top, but apparently the additional floors required a larger mechanical penthouse. and i preferred the mesh for the garage levels to the new proposal with it open.

it will only be 300' after all. it's odd that the rendering starts at 100' at the street level... i thought for a second that the top of the spire would be 400'.

I kind of like the new proposed top because as the pdf states it gives the impression of another floor on top of the building. Hopefully they keep the white/blue colors.

As I said before, the contractors are bidding on the 16 floor design with a mechanical penthouse that tops out at 300' to the top of the spire. Most building projects start with a 'baseline' elevation, which may or may not be related to true elevation. The 100' base is very standard in the construction industry. The 50% bid package I have seen shows the design shown above, but includes a few added aerial perspective views of the model. I'll be sure to post when I see 100% drawings. They have indicated that the bid date is June 1, so it is still a ways out.

Edit: Just took a look at the linked PDF. Those are the current drawings for the 50% design I looked at two weeks ago.

Thanks for the info Killa B. Do you know if the color scheme will be the same as the original renderings, with the blue/white? The current drawings show different colors.

The architectural bid set I have does not expressly define the colors of the building, but I would imagine it would be very similar to the colors shown in the latest artists' rendering. They usually define color in the project specs with the terms 'or equal', meaning as similar as possible to brand and color.

IIRC, the US Bank building is 267', now we have the Zion's building roof at 249', parapet 256', and spire 300'. Sounds like sooner or later we will find out what criteria the Boise forumers use to measure a building's height.

Alas, Coeur d'Alene will now have to resign herself to having the 3rd & 4th tallest buildings in the state instead of the 2nd & 3rd tallest buildings.

It's all good though!

Glad to hear about this coming through. I'm looking forward to visiting soon to see the work in progress...

really not a fan of the new rendering. the black and white pic, to me, makes it look like something out of the 1970's. i think the original design was the best; with a few added floors of course

I try to take this project month-by-month rather than day-by-day. Otherwise, I go crazy waiting for new developments.

I wish they'd ditch the teal glass and the spire in the new rendering and go for a more minimal design using only uncolored glass. But I can't always get what I want...

Overall, the new renderings are an improvement and this building will be infinitely better than what was there before...

Oh believe me. It's a sight to see first hand. Spent a day/night there in January on my roadtrip to FL. Incredible sight, would love to have something like that going up here.

I am hoping that if you see it in person it doesn't match the blue sky, it kinda gets lost in that picture. I just don't see the purpose of a sky blue building on flat land as far as you can see.

Think that's just the lighting there. It's actually a darker blue than the sky. It really does look great.

Gotta be honest, I'm not really a fan. I think skylines look best when the buildings are close together and no one building is more than ten floors higher than the others. This one appears to be a few blocks away from the rest of the density and sticks out terribly. It will be years before infill blends this building with the rest, which is the way I prefer cityscapes. To each his own though, right?

Well you have to start somewhere. You build the really tall one and others follow. And it's not really that far from the rest the buildings. When you drive past it on the highway(along with the other awesome features around) it's pretty impressive. But, to each their own.
