So the old korean restaurant was demolished today. Was standing when I passed it this morning, was leveled by 4pm.

Progress continues!

If it was along north road or around the White Spot, I'd think it was for Evergreen Line.

Otherwise perhaps for some other mall expansion?

Of Course! I keep thinking its the Mohawk & Jiffy Lube getting torn down, when everything else on the west side of Clarke Road from Como up to Morrison is being torn down so they can make the transition from tunnel to overhead guideway.

I think the Mohawk site is being 'flown over' so they don't get stuck with digging up too much contaminated soil. I suspect that is why they are avoiding the S.E. corner property too.

The Mohawk was torn down quite a while ago.

Edit: Feb 9 of this year, to be precise. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5584709&postcount=3233

if you know the area it is in one of sears parking lots kitty corner/behind white spot and behind the auto motive shop - thats where they were drilling - east of the bus loop, south of sears outlet etc. just northwest of white spot in the parking lot that no one ever uses yet belongs to sears

This pretty well describes the route the new guideway will be using, curving north from Lougheed Station up to the center median of North Road.

Here's a JPG from the RTP 2000 book:

from Page 152 of this forum. There are more SSP'rs thoughts on this alignment & other snaps to see.

I see that they were planning on having the North Road alignment on the west edge of the street, so moving the guideway into the North Road median by the time it reaches Austin means the curve alignment has to be adjusted slightly.

Is there a list of which train suppliers are involved in the selected bid groups?

That would be part of the technical submissions which have not yet been released.

@jsbertram

Thank you for posting that diagram of the station, and the tracks. What I could not understand is where the arrow pointed to the Coquitlam Platform. The people seemed to be facing out into emppty space. The New West platform made sense, and the Vancouver platform made sense if it uses the two central lines, but is one of them for the Evergreen Line or what? I don't get it. // later ... now I think I get it. Lougheed is a terminus for all three lines.

(I wonder what they'll call the eventual Lougheed - UBC Line. The Evergreen Line? The Millenium? What?

Since the Evergreen trains have to run with existing Expo / Millennium stock and be serviced at the existing OMC, my bet is that Bombardier will be train supplier.

The construction bids were only received this week & haven't been made public - nor has a winner been announced. I thought the Evergreen contracts were for just the construction of everything needed for the trains to run, but buying any new trains to expand the fleet was a separate budget item for Translink.

Some projections I've seen show the existing fleet can handle the extra traffic from Evergreen for about 10 years before new cars need to be added.

Rumours are that when construction is finished the Evergreen line will run from Douglas College to Lougheed and west to VCC (and UBC in the future).

The current Millennium line will be truncated and run from Waterfront via New West to Lougheed. (the rest of today's Millennium line from Lougheed west to Commercial will be renamed Evergreen Line).

Another rumour is that Evergreen line is just the working name during construction from Douglas to Lougheed, and "the Evergreen line" from VCC to Douglas as described above will be given an all-new name. A friend has joked it should be "The U-Pass Line" since it will connect UBC, the Great Northern Way campus (formerly Finning), VCC, SFU and Douglas College.

A line from Coquitlam to VCC could just be the new Millennium line, and the Waterfront-King George/Lougheed can become Expo Line to King George/Lougheed.

It'd make sense, really.

There are a number of suppliers who can build Skytrain compatible cars.

I'd be surprised if another company is able to produce cars cheaper, when Bombardier already has the plans and production equipment for them.

Well if you think about it, renaming the route from Douglas Collage to VCC will require all that "millenium line" signage to be taken down. That would kind of be a waste, wouldn't it?
