I most def tweeted that this afternoon, I've heard from a very reliable source that we'll be able to get the "fruit of the bean" in this end of town soon! I personally think that the area could sustain more than just one new Starbucks location and think that they'd be missing the point if they didn't put one in the downtown core. IMO

Didn't realize that was you. I completely agree that Moncton can handle more than one free standing Starbucks

There are several options:

- Target plans to partner with Starbucks in Canada, so there will be at least one Starbucks in the northwest end because of this.
- if you look carefully at the site plan for the Mapleton Power Centre, there is one building with a drive-thru which will be backing on Mapleton Road. I could certainly see a Starbuck's moving in there.
- I strongly suspect that there will be Starbucks built downtown sometime in the next couple of years.

The Sleuth in the T&T stated several months ago that there would soon be three Starbucks in Moncton to complement the two Starbucks in Dieppe. I believe the newspaper and the three locations I listed above would be my choices.

Unless they are going to have 2 in that close of proximity (which has been done, but don't think is likely for Moncton), the location seems to be settled as in the parking lot of the Lousbury Centre. That parking lot is never used to full capacity, however if this is true and my source tells me it is, parking will be bottle necked for sure now.

I don't doubt that your sources information is somewhat accurate, it's just that in the absence of a formal announcement, that this still constitutes rumour and hearsay.

It reminds me of last year. We had heard rumours of a new Swiss Chalet and Second Cup in Moncton North, but during the initial rumour stage there were several conflicting locations mentioned. It was not until ground was nearly ready to be broken that we were sure that they were going to be built up by Gorge Road.

The Starbucks could be built at Lounsbury's, but the likely spot where it would go (the southeast corner of the parking lot in front of Shoppers Drug Mart) is moderately steep. If a standalone store were to be built in the northwest end (aside from the new Target store or the Mapleton Power Centre), I would wonder about it going at Bob Steeves new plaza to be built between the Swiss Chalet and Barnaby's.

This plaza will consist of a strip with 10 stores and a seperate pad location that would be ideal for a Starbucks.

Only time will tell. I wonder if there might not be 2-3 Starbucks outlets in the northwest end (Target, Mapleton & Mountain Rd). As you have mentioned, it is not uncommon for Starbucks to cluster some of their locations close together. Also, the Target location would not be "standalone". It would be affiliated, just like the Starbucks at Chapters in Dieppe.

Well as of today the parking lot is taped off and there is a construction trailer on site...so there is definitely something being built in that parking lot...

Well there you have it. It sounds as if lukepaa might be right then. I'll have to check this out when I get back home.

Well, I'm back from Vancouver and found a couple of interesting tidbits in the T&T worth posting. I will put one here and the others in the downtown thread.

The mystery building being constructed at the extreme east end of the Mapleton Centre has been revealed:

The paper, in it's building permits report, noted a 41,000 sq ft building being constructed for a new Tag store. It is a Canadian chain specializing in clothing and home decor. There is a Tag store already open at Micmac Mall in Halifax.

http://tag-store.com/store.html

Updated list of confirmed tenants at Mapleton:
- Ocean Trail Source for Adventure
- Cleves Source for Sport
- Golf Town
- Bed Bath & Beyond
- PetSmart
- Tag
- Moxies Classic Grill

Checked out the Cleve's. A lot bigger than the old store. I also took a pic of the construction there.

The T&T has confirmed today that the foundation U/C at the Corner of Wyse St. & Mapleton Road (in the Mapleton Power Centre) is for the new Moxie's restaurant. It will be 7000 sq ft, with a 2000 sq ft patio.

Apparently, the chain was impressed by the number of Monctonians visiting the location at Dartmouth Crossing and suggesting that they build one here. This just goes to show that positive feedback like this can have results!

It should be noted that there is site preparation work going on a bit further south along Mapleton close to the other entrance into the Mapleton Centre. There is obviously something else in the works here. This is roughly where the other restarant pad is located, as well as the building with the drive-thru.

There is now a construction trailer on site in the vacant lot in front of NBCC next to the Northwest Centre.

There is a new strip mall being built here, apparently to house displaced retailers (such as Aaron's & Battery House) being moved to allow for renovations for the anticipated Target store in the Northwest Centre.

It would appear that construction is imminent.

Champlain Place Update

Nothing really exciting here.

- Pseudio has now opened in the old Colpitts location.
- KFC has reopened after renovations
- Charm Jewellers is currently under renovations
- Things Engraved is moving into the old Singer Sewing Centre location

As far as all the new high end retailers are concerned, they have opening dates between the end of May and the end of June.

Excavation has begun. I also noticed that there's a construction sign on the former Irving at the corner of Ryan and Mtn. There's also a few stakes in the ground, a dumpster and a porta potty. I don't recall seeing any plans for that property.

Interesting, PlazaCorp bought that lot at the same time they purchased the land in front of NBCC. I have no idea what they plan on building there, but it is good to see that it won't remain vacant.

It's interesting looking at this site plan of the Mapleton Power Centre that mmmatt found last year.

If you look carefully at it, the construction that has occurred so far exactly parallels what the site plan envisages. I would say that once they have finished putting the last bit of fill in place for the BB&B, Best Buy, PetSmart Building, that construction should begin in short order. We already know that ads have been placed for managers of both BB&B and PetSmart, so I imagine they are chafing at the bit to get started.

It's also interesting to note that the site plan also listed that the lot on the other side of Mapleton Road as belonging to Cordova Realty, so this propsed building was also in the works back then......

Whatever it is, it appears that it will have a significantly larger footprint than the former Irving. They were clearing the rest of the lot today of trees and such and they started digging up the old pavement. They also appear to be digging some sort of drainage ditch on the off-ramp side.

I could see another strip mall go up there.

Hbc

Is it closing down for good or moving to another location? I had seen a job posting for a full time cashier merchandiser? I thought it was weird since they are closing in sept.
