Remember. This is Edmonton. This is a step forward for Edmonton on the quality of inventory. Calgary, Van, TO, MTL, etc. sure, all have towers like this. Edmonton is just finally getting 2010 stock.

Geez, even with Ottawa city council's newfound love of highrise construction, this is going to throw a lot of people into a tizzy of the classic Ottawa type. Frankly, I can't see any reason for it not to proceed, but I can just hear the "end of civilization as we know it" type of argument that will be vented.
I thought nothing in Ottawa could be taller than the Peace Tower?

The Claridge project puts stores on the ground floor. The 128-metre-tall building [new tallest] includes two or three floors of offices, and 220 to 250 residential units.
They also interviewed Foster + Partners, Gehry Partners, Perkins + Will, and Kohn Pederson Fox!
WHOA! That is a beauty... and at 42 floors would def be Ottawa's tallest.

I actually like this version a bit better. Much more of a heritage feeling to it and I'm sure the (majority) residents of St. John's will also like it much better. This one has a much better chance of getting through the heritage panel.

The new version looks better. One problem it has though is that there's not enough of a setback between the brick/stone-style facades and the glass above.
