When things like the farmers market and folk festival are going it think it will be a really good spot, despite the lack of any restaurants or shopping along the north side. I also noticed that they replaced the flag poles behind the stage with taller more robust ones, hopefully these ones don't get vandalized!
Some people feel that the plaza should have been built along Scarth where there are already restaurants/patios and the impact on traffic would have been much smaller. I get what their thinking is, but I think the point of the plaza was more to encourage that same type of development on 12th. I think Harvard kinda messed that up for the time being. But, still...imagine 12th with a band playing on the stage, vendors on the plaza, people in the park, people hanging out on the FW Hill Mall, people on the CK/O'Hans patio, maybe in the future some patios along the plaza, the new RPL branch with people coming and going...Putting the plaza on Scarth may have been "easier" but I don't think people who believe that it would have made more sense are looking at the bigger picture and many are missing the point altogether.

Either that, or an alternate location within the downtown.
This never even occurred to me, but it would have been a great location and there would have been much less complaining about traffic.

Not sure where on Hamilton, either.
It will be opening up on the block between Victoria and 12th avenue. It's actually my aunties business and she has asked me to work at her new location. We are doing really well and it's really taken a name in the city! I wish I could tell all of you the name of the new restaurant. Expect 'Fresh & ... '. You are right in assuming it will be focused on something much different, however, I can't tell you if you are fully correct in your observations. I do know that I need to stop going for gelato every day before school though!!

The primary garden in the middle would look much better as a reflecting pool like the Edmonton legislature grounds. Even if they did the pool with cool planters throughout maybe with a rock path or something.

New Public School in North Central

The Regina Public School Board announced the development of a new school to replace Hercmer and Wascana.

Plans can be seen here

Hopefully, this can be a catalyst for the community along with the New Scott Collegiate

... Apparently, to be named "Seven Stones Community School." Wow, nice! I wish my elementary school was like this! My alma mater, A.E. Perry, may still be considered relatively new, but still followed that old, "sterile" institution type of layout -- nothing like the new concepts of today school designs! ... Maybe we could enroll my 2 y.o. little guy in one of these new, contemporary schools when he becomes of school age -- just so that I can visit it and take it all in every day for a little while! Great for the North Central Community!

Likewise, Ngoy Hoa Asian/(Western) Supermarket will also be a great addition to serve the nearby community and ethnic population! They seemed to be quite busy at their old location! I hope they carry my favourite Melona Honeydew flavour ice cream bar! We'll soon see, because my wife wanted to purchase a few other items, usually available only from there!

From the article:
Quote:
The Regina public school board chose the Seven Stones name after asking the community for suggestions in February.

"What they liked (about Seven Stones) is it really honoured the First Nations and Metis people, which is the largest portion of the population that will be attending that school," said board chair Katherine Gagne.

Seven Stones reflects the Anishnabae teaching philosophy based on the seven concepts of growth, adequacy, love, order, social approval and self-esteem.

I really like the name. I don't care if you're First Nations, Metis, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, whatever...those are pretty good values build a school and a community on. Everyone deserves those things. I think that instilling these values in the children is one of the biggest hurdles, but one of the most important for those kids as individuals, and for the community as a whole.

I'm guessing the Fresh restaurant will be either in the old Debra Dees location or if they want a smaller location where the Great Panini was located? I liked the latter, unfortunate it didn't last longer, it added an alternate lunch choice to the downtown.

re: picture in the above article

Is having "80's hair" a qualification required to run for mayor in Regina?

*I say this tongue firmly in cheek, coming from Saskatoon, home to Canada's craziest mayor.

Does anyone notice the major construction going on at the Ring road intersection of Pasqua St and 9 Ave N? As well as the installation of a pipeline along Pasqua St?

Have to say that this building doesn't look very good. Lack of any architectural style, and it looks "old" (kinda cheap); even though its brand new.
Nonetheless, I am glad that Ehrlo got this building! And its a good addition to that block.

It is mid-block in a fairly shabby but improvimg neighbourhood. It is social housing for people with serious mental health diseases so I don't think you can expect luxury. It is facilities like this that take in the street people and the homeless.

McEwen Manor
A new 40-unit mixed housing building on Osler Street. It is a partnership with Phoenix Residential Society and three levels of government. The building will provide affordable housing to people with serious mental health diseases and allow them to live independently. See our fact sheet.http://www.ehrlo.com/wp-content/uploads/fact-sheet.pdf

Don't get your hopes up. They look remarkably like a Zellers.
