Los Angeles County office market flat in first quarter

At least it isn't rising. Plus, the article said that DTLA is poised for growth. And also, more people are being fit in to less space, which could mean that more people are moving to DTLA, but they are going in to less office space, which would keep the vacancy rate flat.

After a long lull during the recession, construction cranes start to return to the Southern California skyline.

Also, the article shows a good picture of the progress being made at 8500 Burton Way.

I think too many ppl in LA for too long have not realized just about how overly gritty & fugly the city feels & looks to too many ppl. I don't think it's nearly as bad as some of those ppl think it is, but I must be in a minority.
California the least popular state? That's just the haters, who are trying to figure out why they can't find a job out here. Happens internationally too where people hate America until there visas come through.

I would take this with pretty much a whole salt mine of salt.

This is what I mean when I criticize the "Avenue of Angels" French Quarter concept that AEG has for Francisco St. Doesn't Cliftons just cry out for an open frontage on the 2nd or 3rd story with a jazz or rock band playing? Two or three like that no that block and you already have a real French Quarter (or maybe "Latin Quarter" would be better for LA).

Quite a teaser from Caruso. Could he be buying the Glendale Galleria? Looking at downtown or Dodger Stadium with Magic and Frank? He was looking at Arcadia a while ago.

It's just like when some stupid people refer to LA as a 3rd world country because of its ghettos, traffic, and a strong immigrant demographic. Honestly, it's like, have you even seen a real 3rd world country, yet alone been to LA? LAs ghettos are complete paradise compared to 3rd world countries, and the fact that you can even own a car and go where ever you want is also a blessing, theres also a reason why immagrants immgrate, appaerntly were they came from was bad. It's just sad, really. Americans fixate on little stupid things, and tend to get some sort of elation from acting superior in notating all the negatives in a city, particularly LA , and somewhere miles away people have it worse. I don't know what it is, but why is LA so infamous, and why are Americans such snobs?

my first guess was the galleria as well. im not sure his style is what we need in downtown LA, but if he bought the galleria, he can do wonders for glendale.

that's a good analogy. more importantly, there are some cities----I won't say which ones----on that list that more ppl rate positively than LA.

otoh, detroit & oakland do have a reputation that crosses all sorts of boundaries & are known for being exactly that way by most ppl. So for any city to get stuck on the bottom with those two should make the ppl in that city go 'oh oh'.

I think LA is much better today than it was when it supposedly wasn't so in certain ppl's eyes. But as I mentioned in an earlier post, when some friends were in LA not long ago for a funeral, & I was taking them around the city, I could tell they had a kind of reaction. I've noticed that in other ppl going back a long time.

So the recent survey by itself doesn't mean much. but when it seems to reflect responses that aren't much better in ppl that I know personally, & the POVs & reactions of other ppl I've been reading about for yrs & yrs, I can't take everything with a grain of salt.

maybe one reason for ppl's reaction towards the city is cuz through the yrs, too many ppl in LA have been the type of cretins who'd take a perfectly fine bldg, like the one at the corner of 6th & broadway &----in a misguided attempt to modernize it or improve its looks----put it though all these changes over the past 60 yrs.....

digitallibrary.usc.edu

digitallibrary.usc.edu

maps.google.com

^ this bldg has been shown in recent posts in the 'noirish los angeles' thread at the 'found city photos' page. But there's some hope, cuz this pic of the bldg taken very recently shows the hideous, grimy red awning has been removed....

ersatz01

but look at the amt of bad remodeling that has occurred between the time the bldg was first completed to today, & how it has been permanently damaged....

LAPL/GoogleSV----gaylordwilshire

^ the owner who did that to the bldg probably was the type who thought parking lots all over dtla were a sign of the city's mobility & convenience, & power lines hanging above streets were a sign of modern american technology?!

This is huge! I read the article. So, they are propsing an office building of around 600,000 (!) square feet. Maguire Properties is doing it. Apparently, there are 'at least two' prospective tenants for this building. Also, apparently, creative office space downtown is doing very well. Also apparently, NFL might move downtown. Also also apparently, they are looking for high-tech companies on the westside to movie downtown. The last apparently is that Gensler is designing the building, and they are hoping for completion by 2015.

I'm not really a Kardashian fan, but it sounds like good PR to me. The Mayor's job is really just ceremonial; a City Manager runs anything having to do with budgets or expenditures.

And she's a lot cuter than Bloomberg or Villaraigosa.

You can always hope, but this rendering seems a bit off-base.

Not really. If you look, you can see Staples Center directly to the left. This is right across L.A. Live, which is a prime development area.

Following Arnold as governor, I suppose her hypothetical election would further solidify California's reputation as wacky, "anything goes" kind of place
