It is a little unusual to have a substantial city named after a major world city. Victoria, St. John's, Kingston, and Halifax are named after people related in some way to the founding of those settlements. Calgary in Scotland is very small and seems obscure even in the UK.
I'm not sure it makes sense to renamed London, Ontario at this stage, but that's certainly been done before. It happens frequently these days when municipalities are amalgamated.
