Piedmont Park also opened a fountain last year.

I noticed construction happening south of the Federal Reserve (10th and Crescent)... I believe that this is the new Delta Credit Union branch. Can anyone confirm this. Glad to see Delta Credit Union expanding.

It looks like Novare is building the exact same Skyhouse in Austin. Even calling it Skyhouse. Kind of lame knowing the building will not be unique to Atlanta.

I could care less. Skyhouse is not a novel design. It is even more of a "prefab" design than any other Novare towers and is meant to be replicated. In fact, I wish they would build more of these things on all sorts of cheap land in Atlanta, as long as they don't put one on Peachtree.

Eh, I can't tell if he's thinking of grand fountains for viewing, like the Buckhingham in Chicago's Grant Park or the Bethesda/Angel of the Waters in Central Park or the Fountain of the Three Rivers in Philly or even Friendship Fountain in Jacksonville, or if he's talking about fountains to play in. Either way, perhaps the city could use more, but I don't think either is a priority.

So what's the deal with retail on Peachtree? Ligne Roset appears to be closing. Bobby Berk is having a sale reminescent of a closing sale. Pedini moved to a side street. My My My vintage is having a sale to reduce its space. I know of a retailer coming to Midtown and I can't open my mouth (it won't be Peachtree frontage) and I know some of the tenant sales in the area, but my general impression is that overall retail does not do well at all in Midtown and has little chance of seeing a positive change for a while. Quite sad.

Unfortunately it's a one-story building with a car drive-through window on the same block as the Midtown MARTA station and just a very short block off Peachtree Street. While I support credit unions over banks any day, and am glad to see a local credit union expanding their business, it seems like an inappropriate land use. I suppose I shouldn't complain, given the ginormous surface parking lot just across the street.

Novare has several buildings in other cities that look very similar to those in Atlanta. It's nothing new, unfortunately.

It is still just too fragmented to work as a truly pedestrian-oriented retail district. There really needs to be two continuous, well designed blocks (both sides of the street) for it to work.

As it is now, it's szichophrenic - one urban block, then one suburban one, then a surface parking lot. This is going to take decades to change. Hopefully if anyone can pull it off right, it will be the Selig team. They at least understand retail.

I think all those types of furniture stores will go to Westside. I live in Midtown but it's just a better experience over there.

There's really not much foot traffic near Ligne Roset. It's surprisingly dead for being in the center of the city.

Well there's not much near it. The restaurants all but peter out near 5th st / 4th st, its equidistant from a marta station (wait who is going to ligne roset and taking marta... anyway), its too far from the park, its not near any hotels ...

that stretch of the midtown mile is just a church and furniture stores.

All true, but the area is better than I've seen it since I moved to 5th street in 2008 in terms of foot traffic. Escorpion finally seems like a tenant on that corner with some staying power--one that is truly worth its frontage on Peachtree Street. Restaurants still seem like the only retail use in Midtown that pencils out, especially in the prime units with lots of frontage on Peachtree.

High end furniture stores take little advantage of foot traffic and do not generally generate much in terms of street activity. Having them is better than empty storefronts, of course. CB2 is an exception--seems way more approachable, urban, and busy, and if they went under that would be pretty rough.

All the retail on Peachtree in Midtown is high end boutique. You need to throw some national retailers in the mix to help support the boutique by drawing foot traffic. Midtown pretty much lost that chance when they built Atlantic Station down the street. Also, enough with the furniture stores. You shop for furniture once every few years (maybe at best)...you shop for clothes multiple times per year.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the Midtown Mile looking anything like the Mag Mile in Chicago for a while to come.
