Good news. If anyone ever sees those renderings, do post them here. Can't wait to see what they do with this corner.

According to the ABC, a midrise apt developemnt is coming to this site in O4W.
This neighborhood is going to completely transform in very short order from the "hole in the donut" to a very desirable place to live. HOT HOT HOT!

That's awesome news! This along with the Amli apartment expansion at north ave. and the other new development next to the Beltline at the old barking hound village site, and (not to mention) Ponce City Market are going to completely transform this area! Cant wait to see this place in about a year with the Beltline trail in place and all these new developments coming online.

Now if only we could get GA power out of there...

More retail stuff seems to be happening around Midtown in some less-prime storefronts:

- Something going in the bottom of the garage on 14th and Crescent, facing 14th Street.
- Something going in at the bottom of Arts Center Tower. The retail component of this was completely empty 18 months ago; now it appears to be full.

Isn't a Regions also going at the bottom of the office tower with its name?

Will be nice to get a bump in foot traffic from more of these storefronts filling up.

Unfortunately it's an extremely poor performing elementary school.

Hopefully it can gentrify enough to turn the schools around.

The Lawrence is now open in 903 Juniper. Same guys as Top Flr. Had a chance to stop in and meet them, and they are really nice and excited for the new restaurant, and the buildout looks absolutely fabulous! Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

http://www.thelawrenceatlanta.com/

Interior reminds me of a cross between Bistro Niko (white porcelain tiles) and West Egg and some places I've seen in other cities.

I live in 1280 West so I walked by the Arts Center today and noticed what looked like a PR/media firm in one of the spaces and potentially something else going in next door? I'll investigate.

Also over the past week everyone has crawled out of the woodwork. Midtown has been BUSTLING. Really makes me proud to be a resident when I see all the people walking about, all the construction, the new businesses, and all of the progress going on. Every year gets better and better, and I suspect the 3 new developments will do their parts to add even more people to the streets.

The new Mediterranean restaurant next to Arden's Garden is rumored to go 24 hour. (Cafe Agora Midtown). He has made a lot of progress on the suite and will open soon.

Oh AND I think the Beltline was doing construction on its overpass over Ponce, just like it wrapped up Ralph McGill a couple weeks ago. Amazing progress there and the Art on the Beltline series is coming up!

I really think the first place in the south that will resemble a neighborhood like River North/Streeterville in Chicago will be Midtown Atlanta. And I'm just happy to see all the infill absorbing. 1010 has been selling like crazy from what I hear - and that is with prices that are coming back up. The place near Piedmont Park that has remained unfinished for years now is going to finally open as rentals.

While I'm happy for progress in cities like Houston, I laugh when I see their Midtown Houston construction/area pics. It's nice to see infill wherever it goes, but really there is no comparison for urbanity in Houston to intown Atlanta. Midtown Atlanta, second only to Midtown Manhattan and one of the only 2 real Midtowns in the country, is truly shaping up to be something to be proud of. The energy has been incredible now that the sun is out and temps are way up. Restaurants are doing major business and all the outdoor seating has been filled to the brim. Lots of vehicular traffic, lots of typical honking (love honking in the city), of course lots of taxis (I can't think of many cities in the country with more taxis), and now lots of people walking about shopping and exploring! Dogwood Festival is coming up and marks the start of festival season in Atlanta, which will mean a ton of foot traffic for downtown and midtown and all the intown neighbs. Employment numbers are up. The city is currently unstoppable (we'll see).

I saw some photographers out today, too, catching the filming taking place on West Peachtree, Spire condos, etc.

Hi,

I had a couple quick questions:

1. Does anyone know what is going up on the corner of Atlantic dr and 14th street? Unfortunately I think this is just a power station or some other utility (there is a sign for Bryson utility contractors). The structure does not look great right now. I was hoping for more restaurants / retail on 14th street west of 75/85.
2. There is a sign for "catamount constructors" on the corner of Hemphill and 14th, anyone know what is going on there? I know a few years ago there was talk of a huge home depot shopping plaza going in on that corner across from ikea (along with more multi-family units where the old GT softball field and golf practice hole are located). Any updates on this area would be appreciated.
3. There is a "for lease / will build to suit" sign where Bobby and Junes used to be on 14th street next to Jimmy johns. Any ideas what could potentially go there

I invested in home park a few years ago so I am very interested to see how this all starts to evolve, especially everything near the state street corridor (they need to get rid of that car wash, I'm sorry)

I am very excited for the changes in Atlantic station including the new valet parking on state street, the new comedy club, yard house and meehans. This will make people like myself actually want to go to atlantic station.

Thanks
Mike

To your first question, I believe it is a gymnasium for the adjacent Mosque. Someone else reported this on the forum a few weeks back.

This is unfortunately a GA Power substation. Home Park tried to fight it, but lost the battle.

You laugh at it even though they are completely different types of development. Well that's disrespectful.

Laugh at Houston?
I would say Downtown Houston alone is bigger than Downtown and Midtown Atlanta combined. The Midtown area of Houston is a totally different type of area.

A simple Google Map search would show that Houston's downtown is similar in size to Atlanta's downtown. Midtown Atlanta is about equal to both it appears, although I'm not overly familiar with Houston, simply going by appearances from Google Maps.

Yea I dont really agree with that one either. Also think about the population difference between atlanta's in-town of roughly 500,000 and then Houston of more than 2 million, then think about how large and dense atlanta would be to Houston if it had that same in-town population( It would blow Houston out of the water) However we should change the subject or it will go on forever and I do love Houston its a wonderful and thriving city and this comment isn't meant to put Houston down after all I was born there.

Downtown Houston has more highrise but not bigger in sq miles, Houston Downtown not much more than 2sq miles, Downtown and midtown Atlanta are both over 4 sq miles each also more people live in midtown Atlanta and downtown than downtown Houston. DT Houston 14,342 people, MT Houston 5,407 people, DT Atlanta 26,700 people, MT Atlanta over 30,000 people
