I love gigantic Aussie spires and fins... Canadians are just bitter because we don't build any and we think they're cheating.

Honestly, some of the new office towers in Sydney have this european quality that just blows everything in Canada/USA out of the water.

Or some people could just, you know, not love massive spires. Just because someone disagrees with your aesthetic preference doesn't mean that there's something wrong with their opinion, much as that may surprise you.

Exactly! I hate spires stuck on top of buildings. They, in my opinion, truly ruin the building with limited exception. The spire works aesthetically on the likes of the Petronas Towers and Taipei 101, but are hideous on the Bank of America tower in NYC or Trump Toronto.

Oz builds some great buildings, but I also think the spires are a bit much.

Etobicoke's not to shabby for a brough of around 300,000. Palace Pier built in 1978 at 453ft/138mwas once the tallest building in Ontario outside of the downtown core and only 3 other cities in Canada had buildings that were taller. By 1993 it had a twin and there were 3 other buildings above 300ft for a total of 5. Today there are 14 built and topped off above 300ft and if including all proposals on the database they'll be 31.

Nah, it usually means they're wrong.

I think we've all heard the term "cheater spires" too much to deny that for many, not loving them has everything to do with the additional height.

Anyway I'm more of an antannae guy than a spire guy, more inclined to the functional ones on Conde Nast Tower than the classical ornaments exemplified by Chrysler or Petronas...
