I don't doubt it. But in a way it doesn't matter. Some people are recovering quite nicely and skyscrapers are being built again. Plans are being dusted off just about everywhere.

The Ritz Marriot across the street from LA live is in fact under way as they reported would start in March. The gating is up and it's march! Don't forget the Cheese Cake lot in Hollywood. This will go under away soon, it must and very well could. If news was heard that the tallest building in the west coast were to be built, the media would be all over it!

Elaborate please

Why would they cover up? They would have just cancelled it. The economy was worse 3-4 years ago than it is now, that means there is recovery.

I fail to see how covering up a recovery and proposing something uneconomical is in a developer's best interest.

Oh, and page 1 is updated.

You should probably remove LA Central from the list of under construction. Since it's not. XD

Huh? Umm... It isn't. It is under the Approved section.

You know what else is under the approved section? The Marriott tower, which is now under construction. So, I guess change that.

Also, I love how on top of things you are. Much better front page updates then any other City Compilation Thread. So... great work.

Pre-construction.

The fencing is up in the lot, although it could possibly tank similar to how LA Central did. Remember when they put the fencing up but never got started?

Yeah, but that one got cancelled due to the recession. There is no recession to inhibit this project.

Was LA Central Canceled? I thought it was on hold.

Agreed. Although times are slow, isn't it still on hold? It would be a fantastic addition to say the least. Imagine all the development in the area! The Marriot, Farmers Field, and LA Central. Hopefully life is thrust upon it once again.

I would like DTLA to start competing with Orange County (mainly, Irvine and Costa Mesa) instead of our Westside. There are some pretty big companies based in Orange County I would like to see come up to DTLA such as LA Fitness, Taco Bell, St. John, etc.

I'm sorry, I misspoke. It was delayed due to the recession. As far as I know, there are still plans to, someday, and in some form, restart the project.

EDIT:

Look what Brigham posted.

He does say that actual groundbreaking will be in April, not March. I guess it is all prep at this point, but the building is definitely a go.

^ Thanks for posting that Illithid Dude. I also spoke to a spokesperson for AEG on Friday and he told me from what he knows (he's not part of Williams and Dame), ground breaking (at least ceremonial) is still scheduled for April.

Yeah the recession was a huge factor in the demise of Approved projects. Still, I wouldn't put it past LA to tear down a parking lot and then replace it with another. So... we'll see.

Actually, the parking lot wasn't ever torn down. It was just fenced. Although I'm sure with the development in the area, investors will want a shot at joining the fun.
