I still have a lot of misgivings about how this turned out. The big one being the height and secondly the colours; it will look dated very quickly.

i thought it was supposed to serve as a beach concession ie a place to get pop hot dogs and popcorn, not a full scale cactus club

I'm going to respectfully disagree about the new Cactus Club. I walked by on Sunday morning and I thought the result was stunning. It is a drag that the view south on Denman is now apparently ruined though but overall i feel it's light years ahead of what used to be there.

WRT Cactus Club, the coloured panels look like they could be easily replaced.

the cactus club on burrard has speakers on its patio, you can hear it from the sidewalk its not overly loud

I meant in general. most patios have no music on them. or places like starbucks and if they do its so quiet you can hear a pin drop over it.

Put me in the camp that thinks the Cactus Club turned out very very well. I was under the impression that there would also be a patio on the Denman level, but the one at the Seawall is quite large, so I'm not too disappointed. The place will be absolutely rammed all summer I'm sure. License to print money.

For Cactus Club's sake, it better be. I can't recall the exact terms, but I believe Cactus Club has to fork over a king's ransom anually to the Parks Board.

agreeed very poorly planed path and the electrical box is a joke ... could that not have some shrubbery planted around it? or maybe even positioned somewhere else .....

And you guys know me, I wish they embraced more of the "tropical" theme of English Bay.

Another agreement on that, but remember it just opened. They may get the drift and add subtropical planting, particularly if people take time to write letters to the restaurant and to the main office.

I actually like the sunset-themed glazed panels... far more tasteful than most of Vancouver's attempts at using colour.

The windy path has no reason to be windy... stupid.
