Nice. love the mountains. I've never been to Calgary, can you see the mountains from the city core? (when not blocked by buildings)
I ask because I know telephoto lenses can do a heck of a job on perspective

Yes you can, they are quite visible from within the city.

It's too bad they didn't build Calgary 50 kilometers to the west, it would have one of the coolest locations for a city in the world.

They are only 50-60 Km away. You can see them from most anywhere in and around the city.

Indeed. Vancouver I've visited... Yes, jaw needed to be recovered from floor on many occasions

Closeness is definitely key. Mount-Royal is a puny hill yet the effect it has on the city core is wicked since it's at the center of things.

LOL

Show off.

Indeed Vancouver is on a whole other level, but the mountain backdrop in Calgary is pretty awesome too.

This one really shows off Calgary's density.

It would also be the windiest city in the world if it was 50 kms to the west. The location is perfect where it is because Calgary is somewhat sheltered by a bunch of foothills (which some places would consider to be mountains...lol) and sits in a nice valley surrounded by escarpments. If you live on the west side of Calgary, the mountains are MUCH more visible. The extra 15 - 20 kms closer to the mountains actually makes a difference.
