Someone from this forum hinted, there should be some juicy news regarding Cumberland Terrace shortly.

Could be good.

A source from UT posted this with regards to Cumberland Terrace

.

Firstly, this will almost certainly no longer be multiple towers, but instead one tower on the very eastern portion of the site- at least here they do not interfere with the subway tunnels. Costly expenditure otherwise.

Furthermore, and not steal your thunder Ramako...there are rumors of a certain UK architect making his Canadian residential debut. To be honest I have seen preliminary plans, but I am not at liberty to tell you much - they were sketchy at best, but interesting - hint: they like multi-coloured stacks

Does that signal one supertall, or are they punking out on us? We're still waiting for all those supertalls you and Leftcoaster insisted were making the rumour mill rounds.

Yes, but it was rumoured a few weeks ago that they'd be adding another 5. This should take it over 250 metres, assuming that they're not adding floors by shaving ceiling heights off of other floors, which shouldn't be necessary since the site already has city approval for a ~280 metre tower (because of the former proposal by Bazis).

If they stack the two original towers on top of each other the new tower would be 81 floors and roughly 288.5m

Good but not great, 5 floors still won't make it the cities tallest residential building.

AFAIK, the site was rezoned for the current project so anything related to the Bazis proposal is no longer applicable. Whatever it may be, they certainly will need to apply for additional density.

I understand that, but there will always be some that do. House prices is also a determining factor. When a house becomes more out of reach financially, people will start looking at alternatives. The more affordable alternative is a condo.

Besides that, when cities reach a certain size downtown condo living becomes more appealing. Not everyone wants to spend an hour commuting. I think both Calgary and Edmonton are on the cusp of seeing a spike in their downtown populations. That doesn't mean people will stop wanting a house in the suburbs, but it's part of the urbanization process (especially in Canada).
