Does anyone know what is going on at the old KFC at Hastings and Alpha in Burnaby? It's been closed for a few months, and has been undergoing work for the last few weeks. They seem to have pulled down the old KFC signs sometime this week. Given that there are plumbing contractor signs posted on the rent-a-fence, I don't think that they're ripping the building down.

they just reported it as breaking news on global news this morning - chinook centre in calgary sears will also shut down

Has anyone heard any more news about West Elm coming to Vancouver? I had heard up until recently that they were going to be going underneath the Mantra building in Kits-but obviously that's dead since No Frills opened up.

i'd keep an eye on the old shoppers drug mart space on south granville - it would fit well there and they would have all their shops in one area

I was thinking at as well, especially since their "mother" company, Williams Sonoma, is in the same block. But I was just in Seattle and visited the store there and it's massive compared to the Shoppers site.

Whatever is going in there is using some massive wood beams-I saw them being hauled into the store last month.

i read on an article about the pacific palisades that shifeon will be one of the main retail tenants along with CB2 - so that means they will be moving from their space next to the old esprit soon i guess, their lease is expiring there anyway

also went to dollar giant today - they use dollar tree bags now, their receipts have said dollar tree for a while but they still used the dollar giant bags, i wonder when and if they will change all the signage to dollar tree - i have notcied too that some of their merchandise is actually a bit better and more brand names on some things - much like dollar tree in the states

Fields, which started in Vancouver in 1950, and is part of the bay and zellers, will be closing all 141stores across canada. All their current locations will probably be taken over by dollar stores im sure.

You see them mostly in suburban settings.

I didn't know about Fields until I treeplanted up north. Isn't there one on Fraser though? I can't imagine that the small town ones could be replaced by dollar stores. They are more akin to mini department stores there, and often the only places you can buy certain things.

Too many stores selling the same things that only seem to get sold to display suites?

Fields and Saan were the two "junior" departyment staore chains in Nanaimo in the 197os and 80s.

They have been usurped by WalMart and Zellers (now Target).

I could see them surviving in smaller markets where a larger format store would not open.

Levis on Robson has a for lease sign on it. Wonder who if anyone is going to take over that spot in the near future
