Sequel 138 the project on the former Pantages theatre site at 138 E Hastings has been re-worked and will go before the DPB on May 7th.
Before:
After: note the future development massing on the right. This alarms me as the 2 storey wood frame structure at the corner of Hastings and Columbia is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Vancouver. I doubt any heritage retention would be proposed.
Much better then the original proposal. Think it'll look better if it were sawtoothed though, that's one large block of building.
Do you know where we can find the render of the original design? If I recall, the rooftop and style of the facade was varied, giving the building the look of being composed of multiple thinner buildings.
Yea seriously what's with the community link. Are they trying to appease the poverty people. I wish the city would grow some balls and say, yes it's market housing not social if you don't like it too fucking bad, we aren't building a ghetto!!
And the building looks like shit. What's with off setting the windows? Do the architects think oh look its so wacky and original? It's lOoks dumb.
Only in the DTES would you see a "community link" to the alley.
A truly WTF kind of moment. Have planners and architects been at the meth again?
My thoughts too - where does it lead to? Oh - the alley (although there is retail around an internal courtyard, which would be more successful in Gastown)
I do like the vertical strip on the facade for the walkway though. It provides a focus for the building.

it will link up to the breezeway already in place but closed off on Pender in a Historicalk Chinatown Builidng....
you can see it here run through the builing in front of the cross walk >> http://g.co/maps/4e8yu
