What half-measures. Besides the tower itself being — ugly, I'd oppose any redevelopment of that site. seriously... the only building with character at that intersection (and much of the West End), and they want to get rid of it. Make it a community centre, if the church is no longer viable.

The Comox tower is downright ugly, but you can't expect the developer to spend a lot on design or materials for a rental tower.

The angle cut does seem like a "reactionary" response.
A lozenge shaped building (or half lozenge for the angle cut side) would have been more in keeping with the West End.

The church was already demolished, thank god.

That's a tragedy. Between that and Maxine's hideaway, I guess they pretty much demolished everything worth keeping in the West End, and left all the ugly walk-ups instead. Brilliant.

While I am a fan of many of the buildings Henriquez has done, I agree this is absolutely garbage.

CTV was doing a story today, and it might be in their online archive already.

Google
"Harold Lloyd" "Grandma's Boy"
and you'll find the film on YouTube

I think Hal Lloyd is most famous today for hanging from a clock hand while dangling over a street from the top story of a building in the 1923 film "Safety Last". No fancy special effects were needed to put Hals face on a stuntman as is done with today's actors who leave the dangerous stunts to the stunt-men and -women (although I do know the trick they used during filming).

I'm drawing a blank as to what that project. Is there a render around?

The lane between Granville and Howe (south of Drake) is being renamed Continental Street, just as the lane between Granville and Seymour (south of Drake) is being renamed Rolston Street. The portion of Rolson Crescent between now Rolston Street and Continental street (that runs under the Granville Bridge ramp) has been renamed Neon Street. When the loops are removed and these streets interconnect with Granville (and Pacific) it will make a lot more sense.

This is the Cressey STIR project, previously addressed at 1349 Granville. Details here

Continental - wasn't that the name of one of the hotels along the strip there?

looks like another PRIME site in Chinatown got picked up. anyone know who snagged this site? Westbank as the one next door and then I know the site across Keefer form that has been taken as well. so we will see 3 mid rises pop up all in a row there. Chinatown in 10 years will be a radically different place.

pic by me.

Isn't that the upcoming Bosa site? believe they are hoping for 17 flrs as well, I'd like to see them open up that one block of Georgia, it'll dead end within a block anyways but no reason for it to stop where it does now.
The one North of Westbanks is the Solterra site which will be 10 stories.
