Is there a Peoples location in McAllister Place? If so it's most likely the same deal.

My Wife spoke to someone at Suzy Shier @ McAllister Place as she went in for their "Closing Out Clearance Sale", only half their stock was on sale and the rest was still regular price. She was told that it was only This location closing and the one in Brunswick Square was remaining open..

Yes it was was pretty much almost directly across the way from Mappins. I do hope they have merged as thats where my Wedding band was from Mappins and I bought the Lifetime guarantee, cleaning resizing package ...and like it was mentioned they are both part of the Zales corporation so they better

Apprently the chair or the Port authority announced that the Long Wharf site will be open to expressions of interest starting tomorrow! Hopefully they're willing to accept non-port related proposals...

I don't think I've seen anyone post this here yet, my appologies if it has.
The Thai Hut Uptown on King Street has closed, and also the Location on the West Side that opened last year has closed.

So That Just leaves the one in Rothesay and Milledgeville still open and will remain open.

I agree as well. I just hope that this is not too long of a process. I'd like to see something solid being developed soon. The more good news we hear and the more development we see the better.

Anyone heard anything regarding Eastpoint? Still a fair amount of property left to be developed. Looking forward to hearing who else is going to set up shop in East Saint John.

Port of Saint John eyes Long Wharf development
Andrew Cromwell - News Staff Feb 23, 2012 11:49:50 AM

SAINT JOHN - You might soon be seeing new development along the Port of Saint John.

The Port is issuing a call for proposals for Long Wharf with things like restaurants, retail outlets, and ferry services all possibilities for the area.

Port C.E.O. Jim Quinn said they want to continue to build business for the port.

"And we want to do that in a way that takes into consideration the things that have grown around the port over the last number of decades, so that there's a fit that (Long Wharf) continues to be a complimentary type of an area," Quinn said.

The move to further develop the area comes about two years after Irving Oil abandoned plans to build its world headquarters on the site.

I have no idea but East Point is the slowest Power Center to be developed I have ever seen! It tells me that it is hard to attract national retailers in SJ.

The Digby ferry used to dock at Long Wharf, maybe they're thinking of moving back to that location to free up port land on the West Side for more industrial uses. Can't say that'd be a bad idea, provided we ended up with more than just a single ferry terminal on a 20 acre site.

To be honest i'd hate to see Long Wharf turn into a ferry terminal for a ferry that is barely in operation.

Haha, enjoy the trip! I love the ferry myself, but it's been operating on unstable ground for years now. With a viable uptown waterfront property like Long Wharf available, i'd hate to see it used for a ferry that we're not guaranteed to have in five years.

LOL - There's not much to enjoy, that's for sure. The best part is when it docks in SJ.

FYI - Believe it or not, I kind of agree with you on this one.

Bay Ferries*

In a way, I sort of wish Marine Atlantic still operated the service. On the other hand, given what's been going on with the Newfoundland fleet, maybe I don't...

I did notice, when I took the ferry in November, that you can still see the outline of the Marine Atlantic logo on the funnel where it's been painted over. Also, I found a pretty huge error on their onboard poster about the history of the ferry service, which completely misidentifies the original paint job of the current vessel as the Princess of Nanaimo. Oops!

The Saint John Port Authority has issued a request for proposals to develop the waterfront property Long Wharf in the city's uptown.

"It's going to be interesting to see what we get back,” said chairman Stephen Campbell.

The chairman said he's excited about the opportunity for commercial development, such as restaurants, retail shops and tourism-related business.

A discussion surrounding the eight-hectare property has been ongoing since Irving Oil Ltd.'s parent company Fort Reliance shelved its plan to build its world headquarters there two years ago, killing a $10-million deal for the port authority.

"We're not generating the revenue out of that facility and the irony is it's one of the most prime properties probably in southern New Brunswick for development for other uses or mixed uses,” said Campbell.

“So it's an opportunity cost that we just can't afford as a port if we're going to go forward.”

...

But Pat Riley, treasurer of the International Longshoremen's Association Local 273, said he wants to see Long Wharf remain a cargo port.

...

Riley said he worries that when ships come calling, the port will be full of hotels and restaurants.

Riley was also a vocal opponent of the proposed Fort Reliance development.

"If we get any of that business we're going to need port property and port infrastructure, especially a well-built wharf like Long Wharf," he said.

Most interesting is that under the aerial photo used in the article, it says: Development proposals must leave space for ongoing cruise ship operations at Long Wharf. (SkyscraperPage Forum)
