The undeniable reality is that Toronto has far more skyscraper development than anywhere else in the country. It is understandable that folks from elsewhere in Canada are rankled by the constant stream of Toronto updates, not necessarily out of envy but out of fatigue. But it's wrong to blame the messenger.
Boosterism can definitely get annoying, but it's no crime. What's more irritating is the constant embellishment of facts and presentation of rumour and speculation as fact. I literally cannot count the number of times I've had to make a follow-up post to one of Caltrane's qualifying or correcting some baseless factual statement he's made about a development or a rumour. I'm not out to be condescending... I just want the correct information to be out there. But Cal's a big boy. He can take a little bit of ribbing.

Here's a fresh new proposal to lighten the mood (Technically 7 m short of making this list, although #50 is becoming a stale proposal and a bunch don't have specified heights). Will still have an impact on expanding the Bloor-Yorkville skyline though.

140 Yorkville Avenue, 38 storey, 131 m, Empire Communities.

http://app.toronto.ca/DevelopmentApplications/searchPlanningAppSetup.do?action=init

140 YORKVILLE AVE

OPA / Rezoning 12 113502 STE 27 OZ Ward 27
- Tor & E.York Jan 27, 2012 Application Submitted Jan 27, 2012 Residential Apartments Tamir, Oren
(416) 392-7349
The application proposes to construct a 38 storey (120 metres, plus 6-metre mechanical penthouse, and an addition 5-metre elevator overrun and architectural element - total 131 metres) mixed-use building with 342 residential units and retail in the first two storeys. A total of 247 parking spaces (203 residential and 44 visitors/commercial) in a five level underground parking facility accessed via Avenue Road.

I've never seen you be condescending in your corrections...but anyway, let's get past this. Sorry to have started it, but I felt it needed addressing.

Lemme get this straight... so Whippersnapper - a Torontonian - calling out Caltrane - another Torontonian, is a regional issue to you guys?

Sure, the rest of us are probably envious too, but just look at the quality and selectiveness of updates from anywhere else in the country, versus the photographic and verbal diarrhea coming from your "messenger". Excessive/poor-quality updates and sales pitches kill interest in these threads, not to mention credibility.

LOL yes, though the main difference was I made it my intention to get banned and shut down my account one night. My choice.

It was reasons like what has happened to this thread that made the 2 year break well worth it. The sad thing is the site is much better now but still has a way to go. I will agree with The_Architect that it beats snobbery over on UT. That site used to be fun but now takes itself way to seriously.

Where did you get that T.O sketchup link?

Now that's bland. C'mon, Toronto. Why are you trying to hide what's left of your interesting skyline behind ultra-boring 50 storey highrises?

That's supposedly just a massing study. The real design of the towers will fit within the building envelopes in that render.

It's going north of Aura and south of 1 Bloor, it won't block out anything. It's getting rid of probably the ugliest most small town strip plaza left on Yonge. Providing they ad a decent podium with decent retail space that's all that really matters for this location. It will also block out some 70's, and 80's — in that area.

Got it from an architecture firm I used to work at before going back into research... we were using it for a 40-storey office proposal where Aura is now being constructed instead =( We even created our own view cones to rationalize the massing... it was very Vancouveresque for a Toronto firm.

By the way, my official reason for banishment was "multiple user accounts", since none of my posts could be flagged without incriminating him or someone else. I briefly joined SSC, got bored, came back a year later wanting to share some info and created a new account. TB found out after another year but waited for 2 more years while privately trying to blackmail me to toe the party line. Hence, publicly he's always very vague as to why I was banned.
