I find it odd that the hockey world in general has all this respect for Shane Doan not wanting to move his family to Winnipeg, because it's cold and shitty in Canada.. yet somehow Iggy is a tad mental for not wanting to do anything to win a cup.

Flames recall Leland Irving and assign Henrik Karlsson for a condition stint.

I love Karlsson's personality, but Irving has played much better from what I've seen. Makes sense.

All of this is a moot point once we convince Ramo to come here in a couple of years though. Then the backup position might actually matter (I have a hard time seeing Ramo playing 70 games every season).

Yeppers, Irving played a couple of games on the weekend for the heat and should suit up against the Coyotes. Karlsson should get some game time with the Heat. Works out well! Test the ol knee out.

Actually, Ramo has been playing very well in the KHL. I think if Feaster could persuade him to come back to the NHL, he could become the Flames #1 goaltender in a few years or so. Or, Irving could take the spot....

I wonder if Feaster will move Karlsson or Irving or both at the deadline. Irving is a UFA this year. Karlsson has one year left at 800k, then he's a UFA.

If it were up to me, I'd move one for draft picks.

That's actually what I was implying. Right now "who's the backup" is meaningless. Kipper plays 70-75 games, and the Flames lose damn near every game he doesn't play no matter who's in net. With Ramo as our #1 (Kipper won't play forever), I see him maybe doing 50-60 games. Having a good backup will be crucial then.

As I type this, Anaheim has goal #1. With Kipper in net even though he's never won there (see, we almost never play backups). Chalk up loss #13 in a row there.

Took 3 minutes from posting that for goal #2, really terrible giveaway by Jokinen (again).

Very disappointing result.

Like I said in that main thread, Backlund looked so "uninspired" in his shootout attempt. I don't think he will ever reach his potential.

Ramo has 2 years left on his KHL contract. I imagine that he won't be here much sooner than that!

I hear ya mate. Sad that we had the 2 0n 1 in overtime and 4 opportunities to put it away in the SO!

And I'm sure he would like to play more than 15 games a year, which might not be the case while Kipper is still in the picture.

2 years should be good timing, really.

I wouldn't trade Irving at all. He looks promising, and could also become a #1 goaltender in the upcoming years.

Karlsson could go, maybe for a 4th or 5th round draft pick.

It will be VERY interesting to see what will happen with Kipper. I would be interested to know if he wants to stay in Calgary and end his career here when his contract runs up.

If Ramo is here and is a solid as he is made out to be then we don't have to worry about Kipper playing 70 games a season. It will lesson his load, which would be good given his age.

If Kipper is no longer needed in 2 years from now, I'd like to trade him as a rental for draft picks..

Flames sign Derek Smith:

Hmm, so that's around $775,000 a year.

Great signing by Feaster.

Great deal for an up-and-coming D-man. He reminds me of Giordano a little - not really noticed, never played much, and then suddenly BAM! Instant good player.

I hope the Flames are reserving some cash for a Big Mac budget. Last night was an impressive showing by Olli. Probably his best game as a Flame.

Kiprusoff had an amazing game also. That "scorpion" save was amazing! No chatter about him being a Vezina candidate but this might be his BEST season as a Flame

Friend of mine sent me a Footy (soccer) save that looked like that - except the keeper actually kicked the ball forward with his legs positioned like that. Absolutely mind boggling to see. Wish I had kept the link.

Well it looks like I'm going to make it to a game this year afterall. Turns out that the Flames are in Denver the week I'm there so I'm going to hit up the game on Tuesday evening. Should be fun, we got decent tickets (3rd row of the lower centre balcony) for a lot less then they go for similar seats in Calgary.
