Sask:

Sask's last two quarters saw some strong growth (0.53, 0.52) , but the first quarter was low by comparison (0.18).

MB's growth has been more modest, but steady in the last 3 quarters: 0.33, 0.41, 0.23.
Interesting that while our population is still growing in BC. But net inter-provincial migration seems to have come to a screeching halt since about mid 2010. And a net out flow to other provinces for the last three consecutive quarters.

Not uncommon to see a net outflow for a quarter every once in awhile. But I don't ever think I seen such a consistent trend as we seem to be experiencing now. Seems a bit out of the ordinary since BC has always been the king of net inlows for inter-provincial migration.

I can only hazard to guess that maybe our high unemployment rate, high housing prices and a looming NDP government maybe taking a toll on our population trends.

Kinda cool looking. How did you find that link? I would like to see more info for other cities like Edmonton, Calgary and Ft. McMurray. Does anyone know where to find those? Thanks for any replies.

And another one leaves....quietly

Doesn't anyone else worry why Manitoba has lost interprovincial migration by 2 to 3 thousand people each year for the last several years. Regardless of international immigration program I find this to be of a real concern and have to wonder WHY? WHY?
Seems like something the reigning government likes to keep swept under the rug.
To me this is a real indicator of something broken.

Let's figure this out so maybe one day I have a good reason to move back.

Well, why did you move to Manitoba? And then why did you leave? Maybe these two answers will give us some insight into your question...

Suitcases are Waiting

Well firstly, I grew up in Manitoba and worked for about 15 years before leaving for opportunities in Alberta. That moved erased 15 years of just making ends meet and debt, within a dozen great years I'm fInancially well off. I always felt from my ongoing visits and trade shows there that they had the can do mindset, progressive and forward thinking, wild west spirit that I possessed. And you know what, I was right...for 12 years now I have enjoyed a way of thinking that is entirely different than my siblings that remain in the peg, they have more of a guess that's all we can afford attitude that has infected the masses.

Always will love the peg but can't stand the second rate mindset of Manitoban's in general which is fed to them by the lack of civic or provincial leadership.

Also to much provincial monies goes essentially to the black hole as the provincial government throws money at a mismanaged first nations portfolio.

My suitcases will remain in the closet for now.

But the reality is, we aren't Alberta. The reality is, that Alberta has far more money, and it isn't a way of making money that we can produce...at least not with current technology. It isn't a can't do attitude, it's a realistic attitude.

If anyone has a second rate attitude its people like you. Instead of being innovative and a leader, you left to follow not what is a "wild west spirit" but one of complacency and easy money. Instead of leaving and complaining, why didn't you stay and become a leader? Stay in alberta, your attitude is not missed here.

I know I've probably pointed this out more then once in the past year or whatever, but don't be so sensitive.

Somebody not lauding Manitoba as heaven on Earth is not a call to verbal action.

As well, the fact that Manitoba does bleed people inter-provincially in spite of big international migration gains is a notable issue.

People are probably wimps about the long cold winters that Winnipeg gets. Plus there's probably a false idea that things will be so much better once they leave to Calgary or Toronto.

On the positive side at least many people are now moving back to the Peg after realizing how good we got it here!

Typical Winnipeg attitude, talk about inside the perimeter and assume that encompasses the entire province.

Oops! You got me! Well it would help a bit if there was another big city in Manitoba.

Interprovincial migration is not that big a deal as long as your overall population is growing. All provinces experience this from time to time.

Look at BC which has historically been the interprovincial migration king of Canada. According to the statistics migration from other parts of Canada has ground to a halt in the last year and a half. In fact the last three consecutive quarters BC has lost people to other provinces. Thats never happened in recent history.
