I'll be honest, that's pretty darn ugly. Looks like a busy mess. Needs to be sent back to the drawing board for some alterations and refining.

The low-rise addition (along Yorkville Ave) actually looks nice. Too bad they didn't have that design scheme for the 39 storey tower.

Not a fan, one would think that since these units will be going for top dollar that the architecture could have been so much better. We never got to see more then the base of the original proposal but it looked 10x better then this. It's funny to think this is what we ended up with because Queens Park wanted to maintain it's view of nothing but sky behind it from university. We could have had 2 taller better looking towers. Oh well.

Yeah the original proposal by architectsAlliance with the curved towers would have been sleek:

The second, revised proposal (also by aA) was also pretty good.

What a shame to see the design degenerate to this (WZMH architects):

I think redeveloping the podium by incorporating a 12-15 story midrise (continuation of that lowrise design) on Yorkville avenue would be more sensible.

Maybe it's just me but purchasing a premium luxury unit in the older re-vamped tower with a view of that hideous new condo tower borders on insanity.

Agreed, that sounds more ideal. With the original building being retained and revamped, the extra tower seems like an awkward and unnecessary piece of intensification.

Sutton Residences, Lanterra, aA ???

I'm guessing on the name and architect here, so I'll take a guess on the massing based on what a Toronto realtor saw last night at a preview:

The one on the left was built in 1971.

The new tower looks more like a cross between a 60s brutalist tower and a generic modern condo.

My goodness, are they selling tickets to a cheap B-rated slasher film or condo units?

That seems to be the trend in that area. Here is one for Studio just 2 blocks away.

Aside from the scary image the scale of Fabrik is perfect for the area around Spadina and Richmond.

It's the height of absurdity that sky is the only permitted backdrop. Are these people from Iowa?

What's so absurd? It just a marketing style they've chosen to use. Is it a good one? No. Do they need to spend a lot to sell a building at that location? No. Most purchasers and realtors won't even look past the building in the image and the floor plans.

Smart move. The storm and ghost faces take your eyes away from the hideous building. They should change the name to 'DABRIK' or maybe just 'BRIK'.

Well hopefully when that wedge shape building gets bought up by a developer they can block it in with something slick.

Not that, shooting down proposals that can be seen from University Avenue south of the Legislature.
