First off, sorry. Guess I should use sources in future posts.

Second, I'll find the OP and re-edit it...

And now for trueviking's Shoppers article, where he describes how everyone here would love to see the Shoppers expansion go through:

Quote:
Shoppers' plan has potential

...

The design currently hides the second floor behind a faux heritage facade, but if it took inspiration from other Osborne Village buildings, incorporating exterior staircases and outdoor terraces, the second level could have a significant presence on the sidewalk. Transforming the existing single-storey roof into a sun-filled patio for an upper-level restaurant, as an example, would bring a unique level of animation to the building. Enhancing the proposal with the inclusion of well-designed, leasable space having a presence on the street, would make the development far more compatible with the neighbourhood, and would even increase commercial traffic to the Shoppers Drug Mart.

Good Job TV! You even managed to receive a positive response from the Majority of the comment-makers, a feat that is almost impossible on that website.

cuz if they can get goin on that lakeview will start building a 12 story hotel right beside it.. so that 2 more surface lots gone....

man with all these hotels including the grand hotel d/t wpg is really expecting to attract a lot of tourist i guess...

the grand hotel a/p
2 lakeview hotels d/t
convention center expansion hotel
hotel at the seasons of tuxedo mall
new airliner hotel
canad inn hsc hotel
canad inn mcphillip st station hotel
alt hotel

i heard the amount of construction planned from 2011 - 2016 in winnipeg is insane the most amount its ever seeen ever....

and its all over the place residential, industrial, commercial... i think were seeing a steady boom in peg especially in the course of the next 10 years

hsc, u of w, waterfront dr, exchange district, shed area, u of m, assinaboine park zoo, airport, stadiums, new residential areas. new restaurants and bars like it.

people who think are murders are goin up need to remember that population has also increased by 100, 000 ppl in 10 years 40 thousand in the last 4 years so of course the number of murders is gonna be at all time highs!!!!!!!!!! people in winnipeg are so stupid and conservative no wonder we've been stuck in the past for so long

Does anyone have the cirme stats for Winnipeg in the past 50 years? I am somewhat curious what we're like compared to 50 or even 40 years ago. I am assuming it's worse then 50 years ago .I've seen the stats for Canada for the past 50 years and it was somewhat interesting because Canada's Crime drastically raised after the early 70's until it peaked in 91 then been on a steady decline eversince back to the same now as it was in the early 70's..

Also realistically, people in Winnipeg aren't being randomly murdered in the streets. But that's not construction talk, so that's all I'll say about that.

I'm pretty excited about what our city is going to look like in 5 years when most of this stuff is done.

Well, if it went off-topic to discuss nightclubs, monacle factories and Commodore PETs, I'm pretty he can sneak his in there!

And hopefully it looks better skyline-wise. I wanna see something on the skyline OTHER than Portage and Main. And Hydro

Yeah I know what you mean. Especially looking at pictures taken from the sky....it'll be nice to see the sea of surface lots slowly filled up.

Too bad I'm not a billionaire. First thing I'd do - fill up like, 5 of those lots with skyscrapers. And an Forks development. And an new suburb btwn St. Charles and Headingley.

Anytime! Outside of CMHR, the Westwood building is AFAIK, the tallest u/c in Winnipeg. Seems to be mostly complete.

As for CanadInns, it hasn't changed much since December to be honest. I'd need to find the picture I took then and compare to make sure.

nice, thanks for the updates ammorand!

The women's hospital is gonna look sweet when its done, and along with the HSC Hotel, that entire campus will look stellar in a few years.

And that's only considering those two projects....there's gonna be a ton of other things in the works too!

http://news.gov.mb.ca/news/print,index.html?item=12689

diagnostic centre construction underway as well? Includes the STARS chopper, I wonder if this is the same construction site as the Women's hospital - it seems so

Finally, something we can agree on. It could at least use a coat of red paint or something

Also, according to their website Heritage Landing will be 28 stories

http://crystalconstruction.ca/home/current-projects2/

Quote:
300 Assinibone Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. On the Banks of the Assiniboine River. 410,000 square foot, 28-Storey High Apartment Complex with 215 suites. Complete with Underground Parking and Lots of Amenities.
I know posters have made some mention of it being bigger than previously thought (Biff I think pointed this out)

but either way on the front page we have it pegged at 25 stories. Edit perhaps?

^ Yeah. That would put it in the realm of Fort Garry Place III height I think, minus a metre or two (roughly...as a "story" can vary from building to building)

but taller than Investors Group HQ building or Radisson! Its definitely in the top 10 Winnipeg tallest once built.
