We will be surpassing Tokyo with buildings over 200m in the next 3 to 5 years so you're wrong there. If you're talking about Supertalls Tokyo has none and it's tallest building is 240 m to the roof. Toronto already has 3 taller soon to be more. We'll catch up to Shanghai and Hong-Kong later. Chicago will be the next to fall after Tokyo though.

You might find that funny but what I find sad is that Buffalo's(the city, not CMA) per capita income in 2009 was $20,003

One day Toronto will match all of the above... just maybe not at the same time.
i.e. Toronto 2030 might have the hieght and density of HK today.

Maybe Toronto will also grow some steep mountains, become one of the world's most important seaports, and somehow move just outside of the world's most populated country. i.e., toronto will never have the density of Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, etc.. Never.

Whether we do or not, my point to fellow Torontians would be not to be afraid of a changing skyline. Imagine if people (toronto people) from the 1950's saw our skyline now.

They would be scared!!

Pretty sure there are people from 1950 Toronto that have seen the current Toronto skyline, and they'd probably be more scared by the last page of this thread then they were the skyline.

I'm sorry but I don't see it. Toronto can't touch Tokyo when it comes to skylines. It may surpass the total building count, but out of those buildings how many are within a 3km radius of Downtown? And Hong Kong? Come on man. At Pearson on the walls it says the Delta alone has more Skyscrapers than N.A combined. You are reaching a little far for Toronto man.

It is becoming a beautiful city, but it isn't close to being there yet. Good to see enthusiasm though.

Comparing Toronto to Hong Kong and Tokyo?

Almost as ridiculous as some that believe it can be compared to Manhattan.

You're right, Tokyo is a sprawl of low and mid rises with no buildings taller then in Toronto.

A drawn out civil war in China would probably make his statement come true. Not that Toronto got much bigger, just that the Asian counterparts literally collapse. They're a century or two away from this though.

Such animosity on this site, I was hoping things would have changed by now. No wonder why Toronto didn't have it's own room until recently, this isn't the most welcoming forum for those that call the T-Dot home.

A "skyline" is usually not synonymous with the density of an urban area. While Tokyo boasts density that will never be reached by any Canadian city I personally find the "skyline" of its CBD to pale in comparison to that of Calgary. The best skyline is usually a subjective aesthetic preference. While Shanghai's skyline is freakin' insane in terms of density, supertalls, and starchitects as I find every building (like in the case of Dubai) tries to make a statement resulting in chaos. I still greatly prefer Hong Kong's for this reason but maybe the natural surroundings give it an unfair advantage.

pales in comparison to Calgary? Really?

Shinjuku-West (one of perhaps 10-12 skyline clusters in Tokyo)

calgarys skyline surely is much better than the photo you just showed. i mean come on. anyone who looks at that photo and thinks that its better than calgarys skyline is nuts. fact is it is no where near as striking as the calgary skyline. not even close. now with that said. they have probably 400 such mini skylines. none of which compare to calgarys single skyline. imo

How could you possibly say that? The buildings are taller than Calgary's, there is more density, tons of buildings and some pretty damn cool architecture (Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower im looking at you).

It's pretty homeristic of you to say the skyline isn't even close to as striking. In fact it's downright ridiculous.

its so hard to come to these threads because the were better bigger and will be better and bigger then everywhere else — is down right retarded....

hey look my "Tower" is bigger then your "tower".... blah blah blah, we've got more building going up then you do.....

I totally get why there are fewer posts from other cities then TO and Calgary. Its not worth posting here, it just gets drowned out....
