Crazy hail storm and downpour over Vancouver just now, Don't think I've ever seen it rain that hard.

I was on the phone to Vancouver when that hit!
Meanwhile, over here, after the hottest April since 1950, it's like a summer night; people out in T shirts drinking beer at the cafés ... a high of 25° for tomorrow here in Paris, 28° in Strasbourg, 29° in Lyon .... all coupled with a drought-stricken Northern France. (The Mediterranean coast got lots of rain this winter, thank the lucky stars)

A quick photo I snapped of the 3 minute hail storm on Commercial Drive this morning.

Taken by SFUVancouver, May 12th 2011.

Oh my god, entheosfog, those are amazing photos. I had no idea it was causing flooding like that. I was on Granville Island and it was pretty crazy, and loud since the hail was knocking against all of the corrugated tin buildings.

Hey thanks. I was driving through it earlier and I couldn't see a thing, it was quite intense. Then later I was up near Cambie Village and most of the intersections on the south side of Broadway were flooded. They were re-paving Alberta street earlier this week to fix the damage...

B.C. is in for a stormy winter this year.

The Weather Network’s Chris Scott, meteorologist and forecast operations manager, is predicting a “fairly active” winter for the southern part of the province.

“If you’ve got some major trips planned, it’s the time of the year to be aware of what’s going on with the weather because we do think we’ll see our share of storms,” Scott said.

“We’ve had some early tastes of it, but we’ve got a few more on the way.”

Let's hear it for global warming! I saw one rhododendron blooming today on my way to the airport, on Grant McConachie Way, and another doing the same at Denman and Davie as I came back from the North Shore.

What happened to that cold and snowy winter they were predicting?

Well, winter hasn't officially started yet but I'm afraid we'll be paying for all this nice weather in January and February...

I saw the funnel cloud. It was quite interesting along with the long and narrow cloud from which it emerged from. That and the hail was interesting.

sounds like abbotsford/chilliwack got hit with a big dump of snow overnight - lots of schools closed etc.

Will we get any summer this year?!? As a raised (was an infant when we moved here) Vancouverite who is used to the incessant rain, this is even too much for me.

It's crazy that most of the rest of the continent is scorching and we're here with March-like weather.

It was the worst June I can remember, but dont worry, if you simply check any forecast today may be the last day of crap for a while, with sunny hot weather arriving as soon as Thursday (tomorrow is suppose to be ok as well, and sat to mon hot!)

No. I just spent all night in windy cold rain. Usually it takes me until at least November to swear that I will leave this cursed city.

The rain has reminded me of how truly awesome Vancouver is.

I love the rain as much as I love the mountains, the sea, the forests, the wildlife and all the other phenomena that are integral to the unique, raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

This city is blessed.
