Sorry about the Charlotte photos...I think I removed them. Charlotte is an impressive sunbelt metro for 1.8 million people. It is one of the new leaders in the south and for development for metros under 3 million people, and can be compared to Austin and Nashville. It's actually got a lot going on, and lots of amenities for a city its size. It has much of what Atlanta has, but I still don't think it can necessarily be compared. I like Uptown, the South End, Dilworth, Myers Park, and Elizabeth, but I really don't care for the rest of the metro, which sprawls as much as Atlanta with a quarter the amount of people. Wasn't in Atlanta in the 70s or 80s, but I believe the two cities are too different economically and culturally to compare. Atlanta has a lot of older areas with warehouse districts and smokestacks and old brick whereas Charlotte is almost entirely "new". Charlotte's downtown [Uptown] is quite active and features a lot of restaurants, some stores, a movie theater, and a substantial amount of bars/nightclubs. People in that metro are more excited about going Uptown than the average Atlantan is about going downtown or Midtown.
