While I don't see this road as a high priority, it is bad network planning to have only one major access road to an area. A major incident on 111 street would effectively isolate the neighborhood. I know there is limited access south at henday, but that's like a data center having a dialup link in case the fiber line goes down...

Also disappointing to see the city once again acquiesce to nimbyism, particularly when this road has clearly been planned for as long as the neighborhood has been around.

Long term infrastructure planing is essential to mitigating nimbyism. It gives people who don't like the plan a whole generation to either move on or get over it.

People should not be able to complain their way out of ignorance or lack of due diligence. This sets (continues?) a bad precedent.

Nothing stops the City putting it back on the Transportation Master Plan when it is needed in 20-30 yrs from now. For the mean time, it appeases current residents.

^exactly. I do have to say though that I too would be against it as it would cut through a very nice ravine that already has had 23ave and 111st chop it up.

It's only a matter of time before this gets built. Unlike the 23rd and 111 crossings this one has a steep bank on both sides. The bridge will essentially go from bank top to bank top minimizing the impact on the ravine.

I don't think we'll see this built for another 15 or so years from now. There are other ways to get out of Heritage Valley, 111 Street, the future Heritage Valley Trail to AHD and soon 41 Ave to QEII.

Living in Leduc, and working at the Agrium plant near Fort Saskatchewan for all of next week, the AHD will shave off 30 minutes of my commute time. This is now my favorite highway to drive in the Edmonton area. You just fly around Edmonton.

Is it just me, or have anyone noticed a rough patch of the Anthony Henday, starting on Lessard and going through to Rabbit Hill Interchanges? It's fine if I am cruising in my small Toyota car, but it feels like you are vibrating if you drive this stretch with a F-350.

Funny you mention that. Its been rough since day 1. And maybe getting worst. Im on the Henday all day for work and just getting around and I can tell you as much as it is a blessing for the region, its like being on a roller coaster sometimes. Also their bridge grades still need work. For gawd sake dont take a sip of you're double double whilst driving over one of them.

^^ That section is concrete rather than asphalt. The concrete is grooved, thus the vibration..

It's grooved to provide better traction when going through the curved river valley slopes.

The concrete is very good. A little more expensive and a little slicker in winter but that's what traction control is for i guess lol. I will take concrete any day over some of the very uneven asphalt sections on the Henday.

Finally had a chance to get on Hendey north. What an awesome drive props to who got it done. Nice view of the city nearing 127st exit.

Got a chance to take the new road from Manning Drive all the way around to the west end (WEM). Fantastic. Now I just wish they could build the section that I would benefit most from (Hwy 16 to Manning Drive).

^indeed.... although about 10-15 years late. How you 'merge' from 216 to 16 West is comical.

AHD north to Yellowhead west should have been a flyover ramp, seeing that this is part of the CANAMEX trucking route

Hmmm....I'd have thought they would have built that flyover during NW AHD construction.

Why would they work on the NE portion during the construction of the NW portion?

Ack! I thought you guys were talking about the west-end interchange that was just completed (which is why I mentioned CANAMEX)
