My thoughts as a frequent vacationer to Park City...
The 1st one might work in Park City. I need more detail to decide.
The second one is too boxy for Park City. It just wouldn't fit.
The third one doesn't fit in Park City, either, but I do see it in the valley. It would look nice near the U of U or the west side of downtown SLC.
The fourth one looks like it belongs in the woods outside Stockholm.
The last one would fit into Scottsdale, but not Park City.
Each design reflects what the architect is used to and where he/she is from. I'd rather see something that specifically reflects the mining town and western mountain heritage of Park City.
It is hard to fully judge them from the models alone.
I was at Fashion Place on the 26th... absolutely no where to park. I'm sure that's played a large part in their decision. The Cottonwood Mall is needed.
Yeeesss!!! Another HUGE project to keep the momentum going on this forum. I'm telling you guys, as big as Metro L.A. is, it doesn't have as much going on as the Wasatch Front right now. I knew the Howard Hughs Corp. would pull this one off. I'm glad they picked this project up. This is a big deal!

More than ever, Fashion Place needs to invest in a multi-level parking structure.
Amen delts... I made one attempt to go to Fashion Place this Christmas season. 30 minutes of fruitless parking attempts (not even in the hinterlands of the neighborhood businesses) convinced me to order online. I would think a multi-level parking structure wouldn've been an obvious move with all the expansion...

Actually, a parking srructure is/was part of their expansion plans. Its in the later phase.

Fashion Place will die down a little after CCC opens.
And even more after a new Cottonwood is built. I'm very excited for this new project - I just hope there are enough tenants to fill up all three malls without killing one of them off - there's a fair amount of overlap.

If Fahion Place is that busy, which I witnessed myself on the 23rd, during recession of this magnitude, I would venture to guess that as we pull out of the recession and as populations continue to grow I think all three malls will be fine.
While CCC and FP may have a few of the same stores, I don't really see those two as too much competition for one another. The reason I say this is that CCC will be such a destination shopping center and I would guess that FP shoppers will only go down there on occassion, but will continue to shop at FP on a regular basis.
Cottonwood Mall vs Fashion Place, now that is another story, possibly. I think the one saving grace will be that Cottonwood will have the residential component (lifestyle center) to help create some consistent traffic. I don't however see to many stores wanting to compete so closely. Then again once the recession ends maybe that will me a moot point.
I was down at Fashion Place last night with some family and it was terrible trying to park. We got to Cheesecake Factory at 5:15 and didn't get seated until 6:10. That mall was super busy for a Wednesday evening.

I as well had quite the wait at the Cheesecake Factory and Red Rock on another night... We almost turned around and left both times.
Sidenote: what is going to happen to Trolley Sq with all the new retail development across the valley (and doesn't Valley Fair have big plans as well?)
It seems like every Mall in the valley ( except South Towne Mall ) has done major expansions or redevelopment during the last 6 years. I would think with all the shopping we do here there's enough demand for all these Mall to be successful. Makes me wounder if South Towne will do anything in the future since they are the only Mall that hasn't done anything.

You have to take into consideration that South Towne was built in 1986 and really didn't get busy until the early 90's. While Cottonwood Mall was built in 1962 and Fashion Place was built in 1972, Valley Fair 1970, so those malls were in need of major face lifts.
I would guess South Towne has another 15-20 years before it needs a major redo. Maybe by that time Sandy will be ready for my downtown Sandy vision, as posted a few pages back.
Moving to SLC I was very excited for the cottonwood mall. I was disappointed when it fell through so I'm excited to see it back on track. Now if project universe could also get going. That would make me very happy.
P.s a cinema at cottonwood would be sweet!
Don't they still have the cinemas just across the street to the north? Probably time now for something a little more upscale though, like what they have at The Grove and Century City here in L.A. This is really going to be a swank, chic lifestyle center, so it wouldn't surprise me if they do a multi-plex with a real fancy, old cinema style foyer.
I really like the style of this Center, so I'm hoping that they will be choosing to use the type of quality finish materials seen throughout City Creek. Also, it will be very interesting to see what new stores Howard Hughs Corp. would be bringing in to the area. I haven't investigated yet, but what stores exist in some of their other centers? Anyone familiar?
HOLLADAY — The 58-acre dirt slab where the Cottonwood Mall used to stand is still very much an active development site, with national retailers tuning in.
Information surrounding which retailers and how many have signed letters of intent for the project remains confidential, however, and timing for pending construction and visible movement at the site hinges largely on economic recovery, said Christopher Curry, vice president of development for the Howard Hughes Corporation.
"We're excited about the project and things are moving foward," he said Thursday...
"We've been told there will be the attraction of unique retailers that you won't find elsewhere in this area,"
