Nice find worldlyhaligonian. The Cambridge Suites blends in much better with the brick heritage buildings now that it has been painted. The Nova Centre will add some contrast to the view. The TD renovation will be a big plus - then the TD tower will look like a significant, modern, office tower.

Thanks. Its really amazing how big an impact just painted the Cambridge suites has made. Makes me think there should be a small budget set aside for businesses to apply for funds for facade improvements. (unless this exists already?)

This is my own photo. I was wondering is someone could explain the atrium between the Metro Centre and (old) Convention Centre. I remember someone had a picture showing the MC before the CC was built. Was this atrium put in at the same time as the CC or was it later after that? The CC side looks built like it was built for outdoor weather, but I'm not sure if it ever went through any. Does anyone know the story behind this?

I'm not sure if it was ever open to the weather or not. It sounds like a stupid idea to build it that way, so it is quite possible they did have it open, given that it is Halifax. But I think they may have always planned to have it enclosed but physically separate from the MC in order to control access from the office/CC side. I really do not like this space very much and find it both unattractive and poorly designed. That holds true for much of the MC too, with the tight steep staircases everywhere and a very odd design in places, even for the era.

Alps posted this picture (below) on April 16, 2011 which shows the Metro Centre before the WTCC 1 was built. I have been in this area before the WTCC 1 was built and it was definitely open - it was an elevated, outdoor walkway. I like what they have done with it; it looks good to me (I think the Metro Centre is underrated, I think it is a great, versatile facility).

Thanks for the picture of the atrium macgregor - I had never seen it before today. PS: I think it is probably there for fire safety reasons - to provide sufficient exit capacity for thousands of people at a time.

The Cambridge Suites looks great!

The older buildings to the left are going to stand out immensely with the modern, shiny Nova Centre behind them. Classic Halifax blend.

This photo is from Tallships 2000 and shows Bishop's Landing under construction and I think the Waterford:

4 developments in 11 years isn't remarkable. The Vic, NSP, Bishop's Landing, and the Waterford. I won't include the Farmer's market because its not really office/residential.

The Alexander would be a huge leap forward. Too bad about Salter.

Well, it depends on what area you're considering. Those 4 developments are on only a couple of blocks. A couple blocks away are more developments like Salter's Gate, the hotel by the Maritime Centre, MetroPark (ugly), W Suites, Letson Court...

There have been half a dozen or so highrises build around Spring Garden Road in recent years: Paramount, Martello, Trillium, Garden Crest (2).

Many of the developments in Halifax are small and have modest designs so they blend in. Nevertheless I think there's been quite a bit of construction for a small city.

For sure, but I'll be more impressed when some of the empty lots get developed.

I think that was on the east edge of Scotia Square.

Burnside and the Mic Mac rotary area have changed so dramatically. Burnside especially is absolutely unrecognizeable lol.

I agree.
With regards to Burnside, it gives me pause to see how there used to be so many more trees.

The first photo is the site of the Delta Barrington. You can see Granville Street in the background, before it was changed to a pedestrian mall.
