I think just calling it buckhead is better than calling it streets of buckhead.

My $.02. Oliver McMillian's stance on the name isn't winning many friends in Atlanta.
Thanks for the update

Should get some nice free advertising on the Connector.

Glad to see they were listening (either to the people or to ticket sales).
attendance for 2010 was 41k with 3-4 sellouts and a 3k+ stadium
attendance for 2011 was 32k with 1-2 sellouts and a 3k+ stadium
so attendance was down supposedly the 2011 venue was smaller than
the 2010 venue but the stadiums apparently seat the same

Who will top out first--Sky House or 77 12th St?!

I was thinking months ago that both of them seem tentative. Now they both seem pretty good to go!

This is great news I'm so excited for both these projects getting rid of parking lots and increasing density in midtown. My girlfriend and I also plan on moving into 77 12th street when it opens. I hope they took the advise of many people and cleaned up the design of skyhouse also.

SkyHouse Midtown to break ground

Atlanta developer Novare Group and Batson-Cook Development Co. say they are moving forward to break ground on SkyHouse Midtown, a 23-story, 320-unit high-rise apartment building at 12th Street and West Peachtree Street.
Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in December 2012.

I'll see if I can get a copy of the pitch book today...this is the project I mentioned a month or so ago that was wrapping up investment committee. Everyone was talking like it was official, but it was actually a more grueling process of approval from what I understand (and a more complicated financing package than 77 12th). The pitchbook has tons of pictures and aerials, but it will disappoint on quality...this building will have 1-bedrooms starting in the $1400s, which is cheaper than 77 12th and about as cheap as it gets, partly because Novare is building the garage to the side instead of below. It won't be a "pretty" building, but it will add life to that area of Midtown. I, for one, am excited.

I think they should require some sort of impressive art to be incorporated on the spring st. side of the deck or something. That street is already lacking.

That aerial of Midtown is kind of depressing; look at all the vacant space/parking lots. It makes one wonder what the area would be like if Promenade (AT&T building) had built out completely. I think there were a total of three towers planned with the one built being the shortest...I think.

Oh well. At least there is plenty of room for future growth.

It's also a shame that Skyhouse (dumb name IMO) could not the conceal the parking deck in the L of the building instead of making it sort of detached. Probably too expensive. And $1400 for a cookie cutter 1 bedroom? Yikes!

And not a patch of greenspace in sight. We have all these vacant lots and no plans at all for public space.

Skyhouse, with that parking deck, should be illegal. Yes it is replacing a parking lot but now it is ensuring that it will be nothing better than a terrible deck for decades. Horrible. I really don't want this project to be built.

There is a patch of green space, right where the Promenade I & III towers should be standing right now. And, Piedmont Park is only 3-blocks east of the 14th & W. P'tree intersection. That's a pretty significant patch of green space.

With all of the surface lots and/or 1-2 story buildings in that view, I see lots of opportunity for smarter and better growth in the next couple of decades. If that same view is captured again in 2020, I bet it'll look much different.

Let's just hope Blueprint Midtown lives on and continues to influence the look & feel of the district and keeps working to bring more businesses intown to serve the residents/visitors/workforce.

I'm not so sure about that. This view is no different than the view was in 2000, with the exception of 1180 Peachtree. That's also depressing.

Also include Two Peachtree Pointe, and the progress in Buckhead...

But most of the recent development in midtown occurred/is occurring south of 14th Street.

One Atlantic Center, Promenade II, and 1180 all have nice little green areas around them. They aren't incredibly noticeable to passersby, but I've spent time in all of them.

And yeah, I don't think of aerials of Midtown with all the lowrises and surface lots as depressing. I just think that Midtown is pretty awesome in parts now, and all it's going to do is get better.

Buckhead Atlanta seeks state approval

The plans for the first phase of its Buckhead Atlanta project include 370 residential units, 98,360 square feet of office space and 346,006 square feet of retail space, according to a filing with the state today.

The city of Atlanta submitted the project to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for approval as a "development of regional impact." Buckhead Atlanta will be built at 3035 Peachtree Road at Buckhead Avenue, on the former Streets of Buckhead site.

The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2014 and represents 40 percent of the overall project.

I'm too lazy to get pictures, but you're looking at completion in less than half a year...maybe around 3-4 months tops. That thing is HUUUGEEE! Also, you didn't hear this from me (), but Publix/Sembler may be putting in a canopy to connect the Publix entrance to the garage. Hopefully that will appeal to Publix/should-be-Publix shoppers in the area who avoid that center because of the odd parking/uncovered situation.

Exactly how I think of the area - opportunity! Also, anyone walking by the 14th Street corridor and by OAC would notice the wonderful greenspace, but anyone roaring by in a car would definitely not. The green space around OAC is so Hines/Houston, but it is very nice. I walk through there at least a few times a week...nice fountain, a bandstand, grass, flowers, decorative fountains that dogs love on the side, shade, and most of all impressive close up views of some of the best architecture in the city! Not sure about the greenspace around 1180, but there is a landscaped garden in front of Promenade II, and between that and 14th is a "lawn" where the Symphony was going to go.

I have in my hands the pitchbook for Skyhouse. I will confess that renderings within the book are unchanged from those somehow released earlier this year. Therefore I don't feel like going through the effort of scanning and copying. Furthermore, though I am currently an intern, I have recently found out that I am one step closer to potentially having an official role as an analyst (). I no longer want to be an active poster online as that may jeopardize my position and those of others (though I have always been very discreet...no chances anymore!). I will continue to post pictures and comment on other people's photos, but I may sit back and pretend like I don't know nothin' about nothin' anymore. This will be difficult, heh.
