Canada's 50 Tallest Proposals

Wow! And this isn't even the big news for today.

Just another 200 meter tower, well on our way to over 40 to 50 proposed/u/c/ or built by the end of next year.

I should check the world rankings to see which city has the most outside of New York.

We're getting up there, if all these proposals become reality.

Just looked at the rankings, we are getting into striking distance of Chicago and Hong Kong for 200 meter towers built/proposed/completed. At this rate we could catch them by the end of next year.

Urbanation says condo vacancy in Toronto is 1.1%, so much for empty condo towers.

64 floors for an office tower should easily be over 200m. Comparing it to other downtown Toronto office towers this one should come in around 255m.

Edit. Only two Toronto building are over 60 stories (FCP and Scotia). This will likely end up the third tallest office after those two if it remains 64 floors.

Double edit: Toronto has 8 50+ floor buildings and 2 60+ floor buildings. If all the U/C and proposed go through its looking like 11 (plus this one and a few others not on the diagram page) 60+ floor buildings and like 35 50+ floor buildings. Holy shit Toronto

This is residential - so 210 to 220 meters.

Plus the Yonge and Eggers will fight this one to the bone.

I'm betting that the new Eglinton LRT now under construction will help the developers make a case for more density at this intersection.

Yes the fact this could become the second most important transportation hub in the city (debatable) will mean an uphill fight trying to stop it.

But fight they will!

Wow. Soooooo how long until a supertall?

I think Leftcoaster said we might be seeing information about a potential supertall in Q1 2012. I just hope the first one will be nice. If our country's tallest building is going to be a condo it better be something spectacular. Of course giving most of the buildings going up right now this is unlikely.

It's most likely going to be a condo or a condo/hotel thing. I'd say probably less than 20% of the current skyscraper proposals are office towers, not much of an office demand in TO right now i think?

Office demand is steady, no where near supertall demand levels though. It takes a very special market to necessitate a supertall office building.

And the info will be regarding one of the sites where a supertall has been proposed. Whether the supertall version will go ahead remains to be seen.

There are 4 Office Towers under construction in Toronto now I believe, in addition to the 2 or 3 Medical or Research Towers. So about 3% of our total construction right now.


1. Bremner Tower ( may be capped at ground level.)
2. 18 York - (finishing touches)
3. RBC Waterpark Place ( just started)
4. Mars Research Tower ( Stalled and then restarted on second floor now)
5. Sick Kids Research Tower ( underway)
6. Women College Hospital Tower (underway)
7. Hullmark Centre - (underway - but mixed use, so not a true office tower, although a significant portion of the towers are set aside for office)


By Toronto Standards that's not alot, but still better than nothing.

This is the potential new Oxford Property - was orginally 28 stories, but they may have secured enough tenants to go big, I mean go really, really big.

44 + 2 or 3 for mechanical should get this bad boy easily over 200 meters.

Oxford released these new renderings on its website this week: So something is obviously in the works to Supersize the original development.

^ That is really nice. Same architect as Ritz Carlton and RBC right? If so I hope they don't go with clear glazing for this one. A mirrored, sliver tint would look perfect on this building.

I think the glass on this one will be frosty white.

Making it look like an icecube in the financial district.

lol! ya. i've been comparing this one to 1 bryant park from the start!... I'm really really really happy to see that they;re finally realizing they should go taller... My only worry is the potential of this looking really fat on it's sides and the cladding.. I mean, this one could end up looking really really fat on the sides.

Why is the Crosstown line keep being called LRT??? Didn't Rob Ford scrapped that and made Crosstown a subway line?

It's going to be underground, but it's still going to be light rail rather than the heavy rail that you'd see on the Yonge or Bloor line... imagine three streetcars tied together in one train.

I think the Guardian project should be added to list - two residential towers approx 143m to top of mechanical.
