I think that Windsor should get it's own subsection. The city is going through a complete restructuring of its economy, which pretty much started when the economy crashed in 2008. Although things have been slow around these parts recently, we still have had quite a few developements begun or completed, as Symz has listed above.

The next few years will be critical as Windsor-Essex finds its groove and joins the ranks of other Canadian cities that are currently enjoying robust growth and diversification. Hopefully we get some more forumers from this city on here to join us as we go through this change.

north42 did you happen to notice if I had forgotten anything?

I know there are other random, smaller construction sites in the city like along Dougall and Riverside drive, but I didn't list them.

I know the city has been doing some studies on the extension of Lauzon Parkway to 401 (new interchange yay!) and the widening of Walker road between Cabanna and the expressway.

I don't think Windsor has ever had it's own subsection - mainly because I was pretty much one of the few Windsor forumers on this site for the past 10 years. Maybe if it was set up similar to the London one that would be good....as long as we commit to keeping it up and relevant.

_ Business accelerator downtown, ( almost full)
_ New film industry accelerator across from business accelerator
_ Possible new double stack rail tunnel to Detroit
_Possible new investment from St Clair College in downtown campus
_Main library renovation to bring 1000 workers downtown for Southerlands
_ reconstruction of Walker Rd between Cabbanna and E C Row
_ Gateway improvements to roads entering city
_ C S Wind plant for wind turbine tower construction to be completed
_Last 2 blocks of streetscaping on Ouellette between Wyandotte and Elliot St
_ new 110 million dollar engineering building at the main campus of U of Windsor to be completed

Well, in the case of Toronto they just made a poll. Windsor being much smaller I don't see a poll really working to our benefit.

We need more active posters posting on Windsor. Right now it seems there's about 3 regulars being you, myself and Blitz. Periodically we get some London folks stopping in and adding to the conversations which is great, but it's been mostly only me and Blitz the last little while posting any kind of pictures or stories regarding anything that's going on.

I don't really know what would be enough to constitute our own subsection.

I say get rid of the Waterloo region subsection ( which has had no postings in almost 2 months ) and put a Windsor-Essex subsection in it's place. I don't think the Waterloo subsection is gonna make a comeback any time soon, which is sad considering they have a fair amount of proposals and projects going on in the area.

So Schlegel Villages Inc. will announce on Friday to build a 256 bed long term facility on property own by St. Clair College in south Windsor. This long term care facility was originally supposed to be built on the site of the former Grace hospital. The region is suffering from a shortage of long term beds because of this whole fiasco and the Grace site still sits abandoned on University Ave.

It's a shame the Grace site couldn't be redeveloped, but blame that on a shady developer. It is good news for the county these beds are finally being built though.

The Waterloo subforum used to be fairly active but then it just kind of fell apart (maybe there's some other website out there that they all go to). If they were to do a new forum, I'd have it just named Windsor in order to relieve us of any Essex obligations. We could still throw in any county news from time to time but very little happens development-wise outside of the city.

Here is a small article talking about the recent addition of a commercial plaza along Dougall.

Canada's officially greenest school, David Suzuki Public School

The Canada Green Building Council has confirmed that Dr. David Suzuki Public School has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum Status. This makes it the first school in the country to receive this designation.

The school, located at 6320 Raymond Avenue in East Windsor, opened in September of 2010 contains 20 proven carbon-footprint reducing technologies that make it Canada’s most environmentally friendly school.

One of many unique features to the school is that every day is a Garbage Free Day. As a LEED platinum school, they do not have a dumpster on site for garbage disposal.

Dr. David Suzuki Public School was designed by architect Greg McLean and built by Mady Construction. The school achieved 55 LEED credits with only 52 required for the highest rating possible.

The Serbian Centre has announced it's going to be building an expansion to their facility.

Lots of people don't realize that Suzuki has ties to the area (lived in Leamington for a time).

The canal project has been dead for a long time. It has since been replaced with a 'family aquatics centre'.

This would finally give the county a 50m olympic standard pool (which we don't currently have, closest one is in London or Detroit)
a 25m warm up pool
a diving well for competitive diving
therapeutic pool
a family fun water park with things like water slides, sprays, tipping buckets, that sort of thing.

The downtown library is being moved into the art gallery building so all clustered together you will have an art gallery, a library, a pool complex and a family water park feature and all of those ammenities would be right next to the new bus terminal.

It's probably not what most Windsorites had envisioned, but this tract of land has sat vacant now for ~15 years, or more, so it's time the city moved on something.

Maybe other developments will follow once this area turns into something instead of being a parking wasteland.
