Love the roof on the Edmonton proposal. Very One Liberty Place-esque, one of my fav po-mo style skyscrapers. Hopefully they use quality materials like stone instead of precast, or else it'll end up looking like crap such as the faux dreck in Mississauga or The Uptown.

St. John's needs some design guidelines - stat. That shade of green screams early 90s to me.

I think the Procura proposal is interesting but agree, not sure about the location

Still confused about this one and how it relates to the park in front of the Mac

They own a Z shaped property there, but are planning on subdividing or already have I believe. They are also rezoning...

Uptown isn't bad. It's just incredibly disappointing and mediocre when compared to Pemberton's sentimental render. Aesthetic preferences aside, a large percentage of the faux dreck you refer to are relatively high quality award winning buildings.

Now, trust me when I say that no new build can be as bad as the Star of Downtown!

What awards? Pug Awards maybe. If One Park Tower and The Capital (in Mississauga) were eligible, they'd easily win the Biggest Loser category in their respective years. Daniels is good at boasting themselves, but the actual results leave a lot to be desired.

Whoa, that looks like Frankenstein with the mish-mash of textures and elements going on. Hopefully, this is not an indication of the full potential of this developer's execution on finished products. It is pretty discouraging to see something as ugly as this though...

The funny thing is for a city its size Victoria has been going strong and steady for quite a while now, but the shorter size of its projects makes it often fly under the radar here on SSP.

Love Victoria's urbanism, and I love that it really has its own distinct flavor from Vancouver.

Yeah man, I find that a lot of BCs cities have a really distinct Character. Even New Westminster is distinct from most of metro Vancouver culturally and even architecturally.

Victoria is a completely different metro area than Van, so it's not all that surprising that it has a distinct character... but you're right, the feel of both cities, even though they are both so urban, is very different.

Kelowna is another one with a completely different culture.

I actually love this building in person. It's unique compared to all the pre-fab shitbox glass nightmares that have devastated the false creek skyline.

That's not a US style architectural feature. If you look carefully, it's playing off the roof of that hotel which is done in 'Canadian Chateau style'. The Royal York Hotel and Chateau Frontenac are other prominent buildings also done in the style. It's a style not found outside of Canada.

The Edmonton proposal is better classified as post modern!

I was referring to the fact that very few major Canadian modern skyscrapers have pointed roofs. Only Brookfield Place and that one in Montreal come to mind.

There's one in almost every major american city.
