I'll be at a few of the events. Don't think there's much fanfare locally because quite honestly we're a Canuck town anything else doesn't get much attention. Pretty sad if you ask me.
I think the party itself will be great especially once people start arriving from across the nation. It'll just be localized and once you're a few blocks away people won't even know what's going on.

I think some big events taking place at Andy Livingstone Park. I Play soccer there on sundays and all of the games are canceled due to "Grey Cup Festivities"

Got tickets for the game. Its gonna be awesome. Sold out Grey Cup with the Cinderella story Lions playing at home in the new kick-ass stadium. The CFL doesn't get any better than that.

I heard it has something like 5 times the number of events that the 'party in the pacific' had? I hope you guys all get out to a few, last year was a blast here in Edmonton.

Can't go to the game, because it's sold out. I'll be watching from home. Honestly, when the Lions were 0-5, I wasn't really up to watch them, when they went on their run, I was more inclined to watch, but I'm not much of a fan when it comes to the CFL. But I'm not going to compare it to the NFL, they are just different.

This may be a Canucks town, but I think the 'Caps have a place in the heart of the city as well, since they are now in MLS (all about branding, right?).

I find it strange that much (wouldn't say all) of the asian communities just aren't into the CFL.

How does Vancouver develop a sporting scene/culture much like that of the great American cities like Chicago, NY, or Boston?

Quadruple its population? The cities you are holding Vancouver up against are huge mega-cities.

Sorry. Those were the cities I was thinking had great sports culture. What would be a comparison for Van, then, in terms of a sporting scene/culture?

With a similar size but better sports scene? I can't think of one. There are lots of 3-6 million population cities with better sports scenes, but we're not in that ballpark yet.

In north america I'd say Pittsburgh's got us beat pretty easily between the steelers, penguins and pirates.

The atmoshpere in BC Place will be one for the ages. State-of-the-art, partisan crowd, and sold out and packed to the rafters. No other game, team or sport in Vancouver can generate that big a feel.

The West Division final was earsplitting with about 41.5K in attendance. It should be insane for the Grey Cup.

Honestly I've never heard of (american) football ever catching on amongst asian cultures. Hockey catches on amongst asians here because it gets hyped up a ton but CFL? Not so much.

I always see a ton of East Indian (mostly Punjabi) fans cheering for the Lions at games in Calgary. My Chinese-Canadian friend from Van is also a big Lions fan, but she's 3rd gen Canadian so maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyways it should be a good game! Wish I could be there to take in some of the festivities.

I think I was reffering to more of the chinese immigrants that have lived here in vancouver for more than a "few" years. they're considered "canadians", but they're not much into the CFL or the Lions. It's kind of like having a lot of the asian immigrant who follow the Premier League, and when they come to Vancouver, they're not Whitecap FC fans, but remain loyal to european football.

I've personally never been big on the CFL, though, I hope they continue to be successful in all that they do (and win big this Sunday).

Vancity has a long way to go in bettering their sports culture. We need the Canucks or the 'Caps to win multiple of championships. How is it that Bostonites are so crazy over their sports (Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, etc). How does Vancouver develop that kind of sporting culture here in the city, regardless of size of the city.

BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay won Most Outstanding Player, the grand prize presented at the annual CFL Player Awards last night at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

TSN broadcasted the presentation of the award live. Video of the awards can be seen here: http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/

Vancouver Sun: http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/L...996/story.html

Travis Lulay was lights out at the West Division final last Sunday. The stadium looked great on TV, especially with the use of the Cable Cam. The Grey Cup should be historic:

Enough with the damned pick up trucks already! What is it that makes these fools, whomever they are, think that putting the Grey Cup Grand Marshall and Olympic Torch Bearer in the back of pick up trucks is "cool". Vancouver is not a redneck town OMG get over the use of Pick up trucks. AND...If it aint a float then dont put it in the parade. This isnt Kitimat (no offense) its Vancouver, a city of over 2.5 million people. Surely by now Vancouver deserves FLOATS in parades.

No more tractors or cement trucks or pick-ups or 18 wheelers or delivery vans.
