I wouldn't say bye to either Convention Hotel proposal just yet. Austin has been lacking in hotel rooms long before F1 was announced and if it falls through, there there will be some casualties, but We do need at least one 1000 room hotel and not out of the question two. Austin will continue to grow and will continue to bring in visitors. Our tourism has grown rapidly over the past several years and will continue to do so.

I would like to think you are right, but it is no small coincidence that two high end convention center hotels were announced right after F1 started to really pick up steam and look like a done deal.

This race falling through would be a blow to me personally as a long time F1 fan that would kill for a race in Austin.. but a bigger blow to the city.

In other news, it sounds like a total cluster. Tavo Hellmund had the contract with F1 for the race, the backers of the track never did, but had a deal with Tavo to transfer ownership. In the meantime, F1 nixed Tavo's contract for breach of contract and now the track has to negotiate directly with F1. So there is no race or contract for the Austin race, at all. And F1 wants a letter of credit stating they will be paid, which I gather the backers are unable to secure because the state won't promise money until the event takes place.

So, boom. No race.

I am generalizing...but TO ME, F1 has always seemed out of place in Austin.

Actually, it fits here better than Houston or Dallas. Those places would have Nascar, here we have culture.

Making blankets statements about NASCAR or F1 fans is no different than generalizing Gays or anyother specific ethnic or religious group. It's just that people take slurs against the latter groups more personally.

No. Way to aim below the belt on that comparison. I hardly think you can compare the bullshit that the lgbt community or any ethnicity has to go through with an F1 fan. I apologized. Let. It. Go.

Sounds like the once proposed 21C hotel???

That description sounds like the 21C Hotel. Either that or the person writing that got that project mixed up with the Manchester Hotel. That's the first time I've seen a date posted for it's construction start in a long while. If I remember correctly, too, the Manchester Hotel was to start construction in March of next year. It would be incredible to have both of those projects happen. The skyline would never be the same. The Manchester Hotel is supposed to be 600 feet with 50 floors while the 21C Hotel was 44 floors and around 550 to 600 feet.

The Marriott was on the drawing board before F1 because the city had already planned to bring in another convention center hotel and the city is behind where it should be for hotel space and in fact several thousand rooms below where we should be. Two 1000 room hotels can still happen but we will see. ive been pointed out several times in the past Im an optimist.

Developer chosen for new section of homes at Mueller

The zoning change for the Grand Hotel at Waller Creek is from CBD to CBD-CURE with a FAR of 16:1. But the hotel is taking up an entire block, so it's difficult to infer the building's height from the FAR.
