I agree with BrianTech.

I would rather see an Apple or Whole Foods or some other destination store. I don't think Apple would choose this economy to expand into Midtown. But I think Whole Foods desperately needs something between their O4W Store (it's not Midtown to me) and their Buckhead store. My fear is that they will put it somewhere in south Buckhead.

But (I'll bang the same drum again), Midtown will never be complete until it attracts families. Yes, there are families living in $800k homes near Piedmont Park. Anyone else in Midtown will leave when they have kids because there is zero greenspace. Walking a 1.5 miles to Piedmont Park is easy for single people. It's impossible for parents with young children.

Georgia Tech reshaping the future of Midtown skyline

Tech has concepts for the expansion of its Technology Square at Spring and the Fifth Street Bridge, a second phase that would be anchored by a 24-story, 700,000-square-foot building featuring a high-performance computer modeling and simulation center.

No. Tech's seems to be conceptual still.

This week's Business Journal was as exciting as last Nobody has mentioned the AMLI development to go in next to the other 8 floor AMLI development across from Ponce City Market and bordering the new O4W park. More infill. The 250,000 SF development should include between 250-300 units, and the article states that North American Properties is rumored to make a similar announcement for an infill rental development in the same area soon.

I made reservations for a group of us to go to 4th & Swift, and some made the joke that the ladies will need to come with strong dates to protect them from the hood elements. Well, pretty soon that whole area will be quite nice!

Okay then, Tech, plus your secret tower, plus the Coca-Cola reclad will have Midtown sporting a fresh skyline by 2015 or so.

If you are allowing til 2015, a lot more will be built by then. My tower is not necessarily secret, but I am just afraid to blab about anything and mispeak or share confidential information.

Tech's on a building spree and so are the multifamily REITs and so are local developers. I think Kim King, Bob Voyles, Larry Gellerstadt, Steve Baile, and John Dewberry are all itching to ramp things up asap. They all have towers and big developments still proposed, and all are "pre-leasing" if that's even possible.

Everyone is on the same page: retail on Peachtree, rentals anywhere and everywhere, and tech/biotech along Spring/West Peachtree.

As soon as 2012 hits (fresh year, new fund allocations, etc), things are going to really hit the water.

Here is more information on the tower, being designed by TVS.

So they're going to integrate the historic facade in?

That sounds like a reasonable compromise, although I realize I might get my head bitten off for saying that.

Also, height looks to be about 350 feet. Should look great!

That sounds like a great solution to me actually, the back of the building is really not all that attractive anyway. I could be wrong, but the rear sections of the building do not have the same facade lines or roof pattern, are they original to the building?

And here's the "render" from the link:

Cavalia/Odysseua is complete! Or at least the tent is up. It ended up being even bigger than I thought.

That Tech computing tower is great news for that area.

It's so bizarre that you walk 20 feet south of a world class MBA school and you are in the hood. Anything to clean up that area.

The Odysseo tent is huge. It feels like a cruise ship docked next to our condos. I wish something would ever get built on that location.

Kim King & Associates would like to put something on that site and they have talked office for years (visibility to the Connector). Kim King was one of the most reputable developers to come out of Tech and he was instrumental in developing Centergy One. His firm wants to continue what they did on the north side of 5th St, except larger and taller. They will be in direct competition with Tech's proposal. They also did the Palomar, the Office Depot, and MidCity Lofts.

In other news, Regions is putting up their Corporate Logo/Name on the Mini Me tower. The N and S are up on the north side, not sure if the logo is going to be on more than one side. White Letters.

What ever happened to the proposal for the lot just north of Centergy? They had signs up on the site for a while a few years back.

Rumor at the time was that they were trying to build a home for various consulates across the city, including office space and some VIP apartments for ambassadors and foreign officials. Would have been pretty cool.

Yes, think of all the poor people who will be displaced by building on the SunTrust lot. Maybe "sketch" is a better word. Sorry but there's been quite a lot of crime on Spring/W. Peach south of 5th street. It's good for everyone to have more business and activity in that area.

I don't see a problem with it. There's almost nothing residential there so it won't be displacing anyone. It is only a positive for the area with no negative effects that I can see.
