Yes the Granville Loops will be removed. The current plan is to remove one first and then remove the second one at a later date. Don't think there is a date set yet. I can only guess that the first will be going very shortly and the second one within 5yrs tops.

The initial phasing proposal is dated as it's from 2008 but it showed the western one remaining longer.

It could very well end up that both go at the same time but I beleive the Blacktop lease still has some time left on it though.

Looks like Ledingham is going to have a project up on 4th and Fir, wonder how tall that's going to be and if it's a tower it will no doubt block some of the fine views from the 6th and Fir development. Interesting to see this project develop.

Just noiced a few signs up on Cambie by 26th avenue up to 28th. The entire blocks of houses are being sold off and will be eventually demolished to make way for either 2 storey townhouses or 4 storey condos. Anyone have any more info? Stay tuned! Also there's a lease on the bulding at King Ed and Cambie....interesting.

These houses on Cambie are rezoned to allow 6 storey condos, as are generally most properties along Cambie. (Properties along the east-west avenues on either side of Cambie are rezoned to allow 4 stories condos; however properties at or immediately adjacent at the intersections are rezoned to allow significantly more stories)

Anyway the houses you were referring to are selling north of $5M. I am very certain a developer isn't going to replace it with 2 storey townhouses.

I guess no one noticed when I posted that Ingels was working on a project in every one of Canada's big 3 cities...

It has been hinted at a few times on this forum... I guess the hints were more subtle than they looked.

And yes it will certainly be tall enough for you to care. It will be BIG... remember?

It's not the height that is impressive. It will be in a very visible location so even if it isn't 150m+ it will get plenty of exposure.

You should see what BIG has planned for MTL though, its incredible.

Well I was mainly referring to the size of the MTL plan. I personally think the Vancouver development is much more striking and original architecturally.

I would not be too surprised if BIG were to do a master planned area plan within Vancouver in the near future...

Fantastic... their work looks great. Thank goodness for Ian Gillespie and his sense of taste. The new architecture in Denmark, Netherlands, etc. is so much more interesting than most of what's gone up in Vancouver in the last decade. The climate and culture is similar to northern Europe so hopefully this will raise the game architecturally in Vancouver.

Hopefully the property crash under way in China, and its knock on effect for Canada, doesn't kill off these great proposals.
