Are there any more apartment towers planned for Downtown, specifically in the area between Portage/Main/Broadway/Memorial? I'm curious as to how the development of the SHED in that general area will impact the possibility of building apartments there in the future.

It would be cool to start a thread of past proposals (ones that are now dead), especially those from years ago. It's often hard to get pictures for these (as many were before the days of the internet), but it would be cool nonetheless. Things like old arena proposals, twinned towers downtown (TD and Trizec), other highrise proposals, etc...

Great-West Life wants to demo the "Milner House" at 51 Balmoral for surface parking; looks like it ain't gonna happen, as the Historical Buildings Committee, and the Standing Committee on downtown development, etc argued NOT to delist it. I guess we have to wait to see if the EPC decides to vote in favor of keeping it, or delisting it.

^ I called the city on that house at the beginning of summer.

I would encourage anyone who sees a vacant or derelict building to do the same.

It's easy to do. Just call 311. The city sends out an inspector within a couple weeks.

At the Downtown Housing forum the other night Russ McGowan said there are 1700 downtown units in the works right now... old number was 1400. $32 million of the $40 million from the TIFF spoken for, I believe.

That is great news, but how much of that is low-income housing, if any?

It was talked about, but I couldn't remember exactly what was said. I do remember them talking about focusing on just trying to focus on new development and try not to put any more limits on it (such as mandatory low income suites).
