If I remember correctly, Starbucks refuses to open more Regina locations because their first (in Chapters) unionized, so future locations would also belong in that union and they don't want to deal with that. Plus, we have enough downtown coffee shops (Alantis, Aegean, Second Cup, Roca Jack's). I don't think we are missing out here... I'd rather have local shops like Atlantis, Aegean, and Roca Jack's than huge multi-national chains.



As for Lululemon also having yoga... right next door above Havik, there is already a yoga studio (Yoga Mala).

They've already tested the market every year for the last 3 or 4 years when the S'toon store sets up their sale... I don't really see this as anything more than them cashing in on Christmas here... But we will see I guess

I agree what is there to test ? it seem like this company has very little confidence in the Regina market but maybe this pop up store will increase there bubbly feelings about us .

I don't really understand Lululemon's market strategy. For instance they have a store in Kingston (metro pop of approx. 150,000) but don't have one in Waterloo Region (pop of approx. 480,000). Who knows what their rationale is.

Didn't they go from franchises to corporate owned stores a few years ago? That could be the reason you find stores in places you wouldn't expect while other centres are without. I believe the Saskatoon store is owned by a franchisee so I could see why the company might want to test the market before opening a corporate store. Or they could open a pop up store for a few months and then disappear again. Also didn't I read on here that it will be located outside the mall? Any idea where?

Edit: Nevermind, I see where it is now. I always thought that if they could open that spot up to where EB Games is that it would be a good spot for a store like Sephora...

Edit again: Am I looking in the right place? We're talking west of EB Games right? It would be nice to have some retail in there!

Although the lease was signed for a three-month period, Bebeau didn’t rule out the possibility of an extended presence.

“Our leasing team is working closely with lululemon to see if this could be something that we could do in a permanent location,” she said. “But nothing has been decided on that.”

“It’s always based on the strategy of the retailer and the shopping centre,” Bebeau explained.

“Our leasing team has been working really hard to get lululemon to Regina. This is great news.”

The City just circulated a letter stating that the administration is recommending to council that the plaza remain pedestrian only at least until the dowtown transportation study is completed next spring. Council will consider this Nov. 8. It appears right turns off Scarth on to 12th will be allowed.

I can't believe they are too chicken to even give it a try. Sure it might not work well but they spent a fortune in design, traffic lights, and especially reinforced concrete, in order to make this driveable. With the rapid growth of our City downtown traffic is only going to get worse and this will not help.

If this is never opened, all hope of retail, including restaurants on this stretch might be dashed. The only surviving "retail" now is HSBC and I understand they are not happy.

They should open it for a month and see how it goes. There are no events this time of year anyway.

??? Just open it to traffic. The place will be empty for the whole winter anyway. Cars and people can get along. The whole thing was design with traffic in mind, it would be stupid to change it now. It could have been design a LOT more pedestrian friendly is vehicles were never in the plan.

The plan was always to close it to traffic during events, so I don't see the issue here.

Regina Fashion Collective is opening a shop on the second floor of Creative City Centre (1843 Hamilton St - Loggie's Shoes).

Here's a story about a fundraiser they had a couple of weeks ago.

What I find interesting is that one of the ladies mentioned having to go to Lethbridge (of all places) to go to school. It's crazy that you can get an education in fashion in Lethbridge, but not here. Wouldn't it be amazing if Regina had a really great fashion design and merchandising school? Or a great art and design school that incorporated everything from fashion to theatre to visual arts to music to architecture and beyond? Something along the lines of Academy of Art University. The kind of school that would attract students from all over.
