I think this would be a great state-fund corridor. How about hourly regional rail service from Denver - Boulder - Ft. Collins with a few trains a day going up to CYS?

Could be a state project, working in coordination with FasTracks, that could pave the way for a real DEN - COS commuter rail project.

This kind of frequent regional rail similar to Chicago - Milwaukee is the kind of rail service we need before any HSR proposal gets funded. It creates a real transit/ rail culture which I think is stronger in Denver than any other Midwest city except perhaps Chicago. Denverites - and their suburban counterparts - crave rail transit. That is a good thing.

You realize that I followed the link for the purposes of reading a serious expose. (Just kidding) I also love the very last line, Quote: "People need to realize that public transportation isn't just for some poor sucker to take to work," Collier said. "He should also be taking it to the shopping mall, the supermarket, and the laundromat."

How did you find that... or were you familiar. Regardless, I just had to click on the video. By the time I'd finished the article and clicked on the video, I couldn't stop laughing.

I got a flyer at my door from RTD about some open houses that they're having regarding the East line. I'll probably go to one of them, so if anyone wants to join me, let me know. The doors open at 6:30pm and the presentation starts at 7pm. Here's the info:
11/9 - Bruce Randolph
11/10 - Holy Transfiguration of Christ Church
11/15 - Central Park Rec Center
11/17 - Fletcher Primary School (Aurora)
12/1 - Centro San Juan Diego

So I've been reading the construction updates on the West corridor and it looks like all the main portions - heavy construction - on the West line will be completely completed and nearly ready to go mid-November. All track work, stations, etc. will be complete by that point.

It seems that most of the remaining work wouldn't be all that difficult to complete in the next construction phase. When do the construction crews turn over the West line to RTD - and could we theoretically see this thing open a lot sooner than May of 2013. I've got that date bookmarked and I know I'm going to be there. I can't wait!

No really, I can't wait. Do you think the West line will be open sooner than 2013?

A lot of the work now centers around near downtown, out west a lot of the major work is done except installing the remainder of the catenary system.

And then you work through the punchlist and run test trains on the thing for what feels like forever. I'm pretty sure the schedule is what they say it is.

That makes me feel old... I remember working on that on the southwest corridor. Which is over a decade old now. Yikes.

Too true...if I'm keeping to the pattern of all the other men in my family, I am well over half dead. That's a rosy thought.

The Miata and tatoo thing? Too conventional.. You are too smart for that (unless you are wanting to get laid, and, a Miata and tatoo makes you think you have better luck, etc. Then, that's cool, too).

Amazing how 'things' work out.

When the push was on to make Union Station the center of something great, and, the related websites were filled with pictures of world stations filled with throngs of people, who would have imagined Union Station being useless and having to have a motel or become a set of boutique shops?

Short sightedness.... oh, well, Bunt, we have to keep kicking anyway.

But you know, what is particularly sickening about the redevelopment is the gang behind it all will honestly expect us to say what a good job they have done! He*ll, the 'gang' has never listened to anyone besides themselves and, all those 'public' meetings and focus groups made no difference.

So they give us 'X' or 'Y'...

Bravo to them!

The gang is doing their best, are well intentioned and are professional. Insulting their work is the equivalent of raping babies, and makes you a horrible person.

I hope this is hyperbole... or you might need work on your similes..

I think Wizened had the hopes that Denver would turn into a Paris or New York within 10 years or so... and is disappointed that we're not on that trajectory.

However, if you keep in mind where Denver was just a generation ago - let's say 1990, the city has come a long way and the momentum is upward.
