Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa also seem to share the same style overall, the signs and roads look the same with few differences in the signage. Never been to Asia, subafrica, Russia, Australia or New Zealand so I don't know how it's like there.

No two places have exactly the same signs, but the places I have seen in South America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile) would be mostly US-style. Australia and NZ are mostly US-style as well.
In Northern Ontario, they should be more lenient and let towns become cities at a lower population, say 5,000 or even 2,500. That is because they have more responsibilities with the lack of a county-level government and are service centres for a larger area.
In Southern Ontario, I think 10,000 is reasonable, although most places with population in the 10,000 to 20,000 range are towns.
Is there a big difference between city vs. town status in Ontario? For example, why is Markham still a town? Isn't Oakville also? Is there some advantage to retaining town status?
They are under Regional Municipalities (York and Halton, respectively). Being towns allows them to have less responsibilities, and therefore they can charge less taxes to operate, and have smaller governments as a result. The upper-tier Regional Municipalities cover things like transit, policing, and major roads.
In theory. Functionally there is very little difference between the operating structure of the City of Burlington and the Town of Oakville. Although Oakville probably does offer a comparatively high level of services compared to most towns.
Okay, I'm going to sound like the proverbial ass that states that they have secret, but can't tell...I just know that besides the light rail (if it ever gets going), there is some fairly major highway work coming down the pipe next year for Ottawa..It's still in the design phase that I'm part of,and sorry if I do come off like that azz...Probabally shouldn't of mentioned it on here...Lots of work for the road builders.

It always makes me laugh how the Town of Oakville is actually bigger than the City of Burlington.. (I'm from Oakville and **** people from Burlington )

Here are some diagrams of the Donald Bridge highway #1 twinning going on east of Golden. it is only a 3.5 km stretch being widened, but at the very least it is another piece being upgraded. It is currently u/c.

Hopefully a north-south corridor that connects Gatineau to the 417 better than King Edward. Also, I hope work continues along the 417/17 west of Ottawa right to North Bay.
Anyone else agree that Canada in general does a very poor job at maintaining the natural scenery surrounding their highways? Once you're done building the highway and you've pulled out of the area, at least try and make it look like you weren't there...
I'm not really sure what you mean. First, the federal gov't doesn't maintain highways, so such sweeping statements don't make a lot of sense; I'd expect some difference from province to province. Second, I haven't noticed any problems with newly completed highways in Ontario. They normally landscape along the highway and plant trees in order to prevent drifting snow.
Nice pictures guys. Always funny to see that the roads seems to be decent everywhere except here in Quebec...
The problem with Quebec in a nutshell is that you built a lot of high-quality roads back in the day but are now struggling to maintain them. For example, the Turcot interchange in Montreal was a massive piece of engineering for Expo 1967 but is now starting to crumble.
Many of the other provinces are building what they need so they can properly maintain them.
Not sure if you agree with this but just compare Quebec's freeway system's size to Ontario's.
