There's some construction that can be seen driving up Beckett to the mountain on the right hand side... based on my guesstimate it's in Highland Gardens Park? Any ideas what's going on?

There is a lot of renovation work going on at the former Hama Japanese restaurant on Wentworth between King and Main. That place has been vacant for years. Anyone know what is going in there?

Big ‘deal’ brewing — special city meeting Wednesday

City council is holding a special meeting Wednesday to discuss a deal that will reportedly bring hundreds of new jobs to the city.

The meeting, behind closed doors at 11:30 a.m., is to discuss “proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land.”

City hall sources say they’re unaware of what players are involved, but say the pitch will be a huge economic boost for the city.

There is some speculation that because of the high number of jobs involved, the deal involves one of the city’s business parks. There have also been rumblings about an official announcement after the meeting, perhaps within hours.

Tim McCabe, general manager of planning and economic development, said Tuesday he will have “some news really soon” for council.

Interesting observation, palace1. Could Minhas Creek Brewery be coming after all?

Speculating is often way more fun than knowing.

is this it??

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle2206652/

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (MFI-T10.56-0.02-0.19%) unveiled a $560-million plan to modernize and concentrate production at its aging meat processing facilities as part of a three year plan that will see half a dozen plants shuttered across the country.

The centerpiece of the strategy calls for the construction of a new $350-million prepared meats factory in Hamilton, Ont., that is set to employ 670 workers by its scheduled completion in 2014. Another $155-million will be invested in new equipment in three plants in Toronto, Winnipeg and Saskatoon.

The Brockley Street facility (247 employees) will close when the new facility opens, so it's about 420 net new jobs in the city.

Kitchener got the short straw in the restructuring, their Maple Leaf facility is closing, 1200 jobs gone there.

With Canada Bread already there, the park should be called Food City.

Maybe Sandwich City...we now have all the necessary components: bread, deli meats and mustard.

With a Tim's at Rymal and Nebo you could call it a combo.

Maple Leaf's release mentions a new purpose-built facility in an undisclosed community in Ontario for their Eastern Canada distribution centre:

Quote:
Maple Leaf will also simplify its distribution network by consolidating four distribution centres into two; a new, purpose-built facility in Ontario servicing eastern Canada; and an existing facility in Saskatoon serving as the western Canadian hub. Distribution centres in Moncton, Burlington, Kitchener and Coquitlam will be closed by 2014.
Is there another Hamilton investment shoe to drop yet? Logistically it would make sense to have the Eastern Canada distribution centre in close proximity to the new Hamilton processing plant. Perhaps a potential first tenant for AEGD?
