It's great that's it's back, I just wish the lot across the street would see some action. This block is starting to show some potential lately, I think.

A question not related to social housing per say, but I'm looking for examples of affordable housing in Vancouver (where units are bought rather than rented). Preferrably multiple-unit dwelling, and ones with innovative cost-effective solutions. This is for a case-study. Credit will be given where due. Please let me know!

For SFUVancouver, the site at 16th and Dunbar. Wish I had had more time to take a panorama showing the irony of the brand new social housing sitting across from the tarp covered, leaky market housing across the street!

What type of social housing is the place at 16th/Dunbar going to be? Is it cheap rental? Women's housing? Seniors?

Thanks for thinking of me and taking this nice shot.

As for use, this one is for people with mental health considerations.

Main and 1st: The retail level glass is almost complete and the sidewalk in front is nice and wide now. But the west side of the building still needs a lot of work. Sorry about the cars in the way, I was already running late for work...

Thanks.

Why to they think that beige and gray match each other?
So red on the tower's east facade would have been nice.

I hear that the tenants of 337 West Pender are dismantling their beds and selling the metal for scrap.

Sad but not surprised, there are units throughout the city where the tenants have ripped the electrical and plumbing for scrap, some even sneak out appliances in the middle of the night.

not one of the 14 sites ... this should be starting up next year 720-730 East Hastings St aka Vancouver Public Library/YWCA - Vancouver Library Branch and Social Housing Project

http://www.vpl.ca/news/details/backgroun...thcona_library_and_social_housing_projec

http://www.vpl.ca/news/details/social_ho...new_downtown_eastside_strathcona_library

Building design work will begin in April 2011 and the Library will include construction costs in its 2012 Capital Plan submission to the City. The Library branch and housing is expected to open in late 2014.

Hmm, It almost seems like the province should be building a mental hospital/facility instead of some of these social housing units.

What happens when its discovered that tenants have done those sorts of things? are they kicked out, do they just let them stay there?
