If its not the same developer that is building all these ugly brown nursing home looking buildings then it should be fine, hopefully. Anyone actually think this thing will get built at that height? In Laval? I'm all for it but I'll believe it when I see it.

Toronto also has a bizarre clock-topped condo planned in the Boroughs (Etobicoke). For some strange reason, developers believe that this market group finds this tackiness to be tasteful and necessary.

Although the GTA's ultimate suburban disaster has to the Bellaria in Maple/Vaughan.

New super-eco artist/affordable housing building for Edmonton. It is hoping to kick off the rejuvenation of an area in the NE next to an LRT station.

The plan calls for over 200m FWIW, whether it gets built that tall, only time will tell.

If it does get built, regardless of the height, it will be an icon for Montreal, its a very cool design.

I know of a few residential developers who want to get into Calgary but the market just isn't there. They are waiting with land in hand but the prices and demand are just not strong enough to support what they want to build. Hopefully it will change for the better, but I don't expect a Toronto or Vancouver style condo building boom in Calgary any time soon.

Six-storey apartments to be demolished near Markham and Ellesmere

Developer to build new units for tenants, condos in area

MIKE ADLER|Oct 10, 2011 - 1:30 PM

The effort to bring fresh life to the area around Markham and Ellesmere roads saw significant progress this week when Scarborough councillors agreed to demolish a pair of six-storey apartment buildings.

In return for building replacement apartments for all the tenants at Meadowglen Place in a 16-storey building and creating a new local park, a developer was given approval to construct three condominium buildings of up to 24 storeys with 640 units, 32 stacked townhouses and some ground-floor retail.

Location means everything. 25 storeys is an appropriate height for this midtown location (Bathurst/St.Clair). Northwest of the downtown core, and overlooking a predominantly upscale, established low-rise house and mid-rise apartment neighbourhood. The other high-rises around St.Clair West Station are around this height.

This type of development will become more prevalent as our main outer roads are redeveloping and getting denser. Euro scaled 8-10 storeys like The Hill Condos should be the norm for new mid-block buildings on streets like Bloor, St. Clair, and Eglinton. With taller towers like this one at main intersections and close to subway stations.

Yep, 25 stories is about right for Bathurst/St. Clair. Anything taller would be out of context. Not to mention the area has a signifigant elevation difference compared to downtown (it's at the top of a ridge).

And the Hill condos are nice - pretty much exactly what was envisioned in the City's Avenue strategy.
