Snapped these with my iPhone today.
Looks good... minus the roadway going next to peoples bedroom windows...

WINNIPEG - October 12, 2011 - The public is advised that beginning Saturday, October 15 at 6:00 a.m., Springfield Road will be permanently closed between Dunits Drive and a point west of Spring Valley Road.

The closure of this portion of Springfield Road is required to complete the construction of the Chief Peguis Trail extension project. Construction on the Chief Peguis Trail is expected to continue to mid-November.

In conjunction with the closure, traffic will be limited to Local Access Only on the following two sections of Springfield Road:
Gateway Road to Dunits Drive
DeVries Avenue to a point west of Spring Valley Road
Motorists are reminded to allow additional travel time and to use alternate routes.

We appreciate your patience during this transition. When the Chief Peguis Trail extension is complete, travel from Main Street to the east end will become more efficient and North Kildonan residents will see a dramatic reduction in the number of cars and trucks on their neighbourhood streets.

I think they will have to starting planning for the eastern extension as well. The left lane from Springfield to Grassie was just backed up with cars going into Grassie lately. Simply unbelievable.

The development of Kildonan Greens along Plessis didn't help the fact about the traffic situation either, which means two extensions should be in the horizon for Chief Peguis after this current one, with the other one being the west extension to at least McPhillips, or straight onto CentrePort from Main.

I was told by a top city engineer that the eastern portion linking up with Plessis would most likely go first due to just what you have pointed out - the growth of Kildonan Green. There is no real pressure to do the McPhillips leg because there is no development yet in the area between Murray Ave and the areas around Templeton Ave. Further expansion of the Amber Trails area may hasten this but it seems further off that the already growing Kildonan Green area.

True.

If developers decided to develop that huge area between the CPR line adjacent to Riverbend to McPhillips, then it would be possible.

Again, with CentrePort underway, I think the associated spinoffs and the amount of jobs coming will spur that extension, eventually.

The latest Sherlock Maps doesn't have the extension linking up to Plessis, it goes into a new expressway called "Edward Schreyer Blvd" which goes north/south from Chief Peguis. It's east of Harbour View South, west of Kildonan Meadows. It doesn't show what happens to it south of Kildonan Meadows, but I assume it heads east and meets up with Plessis south of Kildare. Maybe someone else knows more detail of the plans?

When I get home I'll pop it open and take a photo.

I've noticed that as well having waited 2-3 light changes to turn east on Grassie from Lag. going south. Once the CP extension opens a lot more traffic will use Grassie to connect to Transcona, those who formerly used the Perimeter and Concordia.

Really don't know why Concordia was never connected to Plessis as was originally planned years ago.

I think that was the plan years ago. I am sure it has all been scrapped now. The right-of-way south of Regent has been sold and has houses built on it, the tall grass prairie next to the Buhler Building on Regent will never be developed and the right-of-way just south of Grassie is being developed for housing and has a giant lake just recently built. All this was where Edward Schreyer Blvd was supposed to go.

As rrskylar said above, they should connect Concordia to Gunn Rd & Plessis Rd.

I heard Sherlock Maps may be going out of business soon. MapArt is trying to form a monopoly on this industry by getting 7-11, Safeway, Shoppers, etc. to exclusively carry their maps (which suck).

Look at "Sustainable Transportation" on the City's Our Winnipeg page. Page 29 has a rough map with conceptual street and highway networks and indeed Edward Shreyer Parkway is there. Chief Peguis trail would end at the east Perimeter. The original plan for Edward Shreyer Pkwy. would have connected it to Plessis around Camiel Sys. St. but that tall grass prairie was in the way so the current plan is to connect it to Plessis around Ravelston.

I think our concrete surface is too thin for this. When you see this done on interstates, the concrete is a lot thicker, and thus it doesn't seem to shift that much.

Pretty surprised when I drove by CPT and saw that their using asphalt instead of concrete like the current stretch over the settlers bridge, that by the way has had surface tining done to it last fall. It still is pretty smooth to drive on.
Saskatoon has this kind of surface on the Clarence overpass, and I expect it will be the norm for the rest of the Circle Drive South project... It makes a lot of sense even with thinner concrete. Especially when we do have freeze thaw as we do in this country and the stopping of hydro-plaining that can happen from time to time.

Although I like MapArts simplicity, at least Sherlock can show me where an Superstore or something is

Wow, didn't realize that Chief Peguis connected to the perimeter, and Ed Schreyer Pky being the one connecting from CPT to Plessis.

It all makes sense now, especially how Kildonan Greens have most, if not, all their streets named after NDP politicians. That's another topic to discuss, however.

My own personal belief was that asphalt was a half-assed way to surface a brand new roadway!

Unfortunately so, with respect to the CP Trail extension, asphalt will save us money, it will be quicker to complete and we will then receive a completion bonus for finishing the project early. Win, win, win except for the quality of the work and ultimately the taxpayer.

Looking at the Rothesay overpass I really don't think anyone can say it was well thought out!

Good thing that they have to return the road to the city in "pristine" condition in 30 years.
