I like Concept A- 03 out of all the alternatives and the preferred concept in Chap.7. The rental car staging and maintenance area would be affected and have to move, but this really seems like the most cost effective and least confusing, quicker route for travelers. Its also attached to the main parking system for the current terminal.
Really interesting stuff if you are into aviation and airports. Hope I'm alive to see a second terminal built.

new service

Happened to go to Southwest's website at southwest.com. They will be beginning service between Austin & Atlanta on February 12 - two daily nonstops.

It shouldn't too long. It was funded in August.

The notice to proceed date was 9/27/11, so a few weeks ago.

I can't disagree with the cynicism, but the fact that it is funded and a contract has been awarded generally means that the start of construction is "imminent."

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Construction should begin by January on an East Riverside Drive overpass and extension of the Texas 71 express lanes, eliminating a significant obstacle for those headed to and from nearby Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

That's only two months from now... I.E. very soon.

It should make for some even better views of the skyline from that spot. But, it'll pretty much block the view from east of 71. You'd probably have to be in one of those hotels up the hill to see over the overpass.
