In reality the Sears Tower will remain taller in roof height and have a higher observation deck. On the surface it beats the twins but in most respects it is struggling to tie what it had before. So when I read typical news stories championing it as the new tallest in the USA I can't help but think it is like a form of false advertising to the general public that don't know the nuances like we do and unlike when the Petronas Towers went up there are fewer articles even pointing out these nuances of spire vs. roof, no doubt because of the emotional 9/11 issues where there is a need for the nation to champion something. Don't get me wrong I actually like the new WTC complex very much but at the same time I understand the disappointment with some of the height aspects of it.

I think you made some good points. I think they could have gone higher floor-wise, given the signifigance of the site. I also wish they had included an outdoor deck. However, I do think once we see 1wtc finihed I really think it will hit people just how towering a building it is. It kind of reminds me of a hybrid between a CN-like
tower ESB, and regular office. I still think they will put a windows on the world-like restaurant at the top one day, since 1wtc will be more like the old north tower with it's spire and closed roof space.
